|
|
I have been using xfce4 on Gentoo for about 16 months. It
never needed upower, consolekit, or policykit. (Those never
came up as dependencies of any xfce4 packages.)
I am about to install xfce4-4.10 on another system,
and those three packages came up as dependencies
of xfce4-meta-4.10. Any idea what USE flag might be pulling
them in? _________________ TIA

xfce4-session is one possible source via the consolekit, policykit and udev USE flags, which pull in consolekit, polkit and upower, respectively. _________________ Personal overlay | Simple backup scheme |

It was in fact the udev USE flag.
(At first I had it in make.conf. I removed it from there but added
"xfce-base/xfce4-session udev" to /etc/portage/package.use/xfce-base.
Once that was moved out of /etc/portage/package.use/, xfce4-meta no
longer lists upower, consolekit, and policykit as dependences.) _________________ TIA |

| The Thunar wants these your "consolekits" but for me I solved it by editing the appropriate thunar ebuild. |

I had Thunar installed before, but I found that I never used it for anything,
so I did not enable it this time. (Left out the thunar USE flag and
did not install the Thunar package.)
Anyway, it is working ok. No new glitches, knock on wood. It helps to have
another working installation handy to compare settings with when installing
a new one. (Not locking the panel can be an adventure, LOL.) _________________ TIA |
