|
|
Hello,
I have bought a Dell Vostro 3560 Desktop with i5 3210M and Intel HD 4000 graphic card.
I have installed Gentoo with gnome. But my external monitor is not usable. I have clicked on System -> Preferences -> Monitors. My external monitor is not detected.
Besides, if I pressed ctrl+alt+f1, the whole screen would be black and the computer stopped to response. And I must press on the power button to shut down my computer.
I hope anyone can help me with this problem. If you need further information, I am glad to provide here.
Thanks,
Colin |

Have you followed the X guide?
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
If the problem still persist after checking that you have done everything that is written there, please do 'emerge wgetpaste' and then put the links that you will get after doing (one by one):
Code: |
wgetpaste /usr/src/linux/.config
wgetpaste /var/log/Xorg.0.log
dmesg | wgetpaste
|
Please also wgetpaste the contents of your xorg.conf (or content of files in xorg.conf.d directory) and the result of 'emerge --info' and 'xrandr -q'. _________________ BTW, TWM FTW! |

Hi,
thanks for your reply. I have followed all the steps in the tutorial. But unfortunately, it didn't work. The external monitor is still unusable. There is no /etc/x11/xorg.conf.d folder on my computer.
I have followed your steps to upload the necessary files. The link is: http://bpaste.net/show/38163/ |

Also the Xorg.0.log, please. And the result of 'xrandr -q'.
Maybe there is a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf ? If not, then quite good, if yes - please wgetpaste it. _________________ BTW, TWM FTW! |

Do you connect the external monitor via HDMI or VGA port? Is this laptop with nvidia graphics card? |

Hi,
Thank you very much for all your replies.
I use VGA port.
On my computer, there is no /etc/X11/config.d/ folder, and also no /etc/X11/xorg.conf |
