|
|
Hello Group,
I've built my gentoo-sources kernel 3.3.8 with uvesafb and I have what i believe is a correct framebuffer statement in my grub.conf, but when I start gentoo as a virtualbox guest OS, the framebuffer is not working.
grub.conf can be seen here: http://bpaste.net/show/37441/
uvesfb setting:
Kernel --> Device Drivers --> Graphics Support --> Support for frame buffer devices --> Userspace VESA VGA graphics support <built in, not module>
What am I missing?
Thank you. |

| sidenote: a big thank you to Neddy Seagoon for mentioning "wgetpaste" app in another post; it is a simple miracle worker and reduces the omg moment when you realize you can't easily copy/paste between terminal in virtualbox and OS host. |

[SOLVED]
After going through the Gentoo Framebuffer wiki, I misunderstood the installation docs: uvesafb appears only to be used with initramfs.
I do not want to use an initramfs so I tried the VGA Framebuffer option, NOT the User space VESA VGA.
Framebuffer in boot terminal works; but, it does appear to be slow in virtualbox.
I'll need to follow-up to see if there are additional options to speed up scrolling and display on VGA framebuffer. |
