I see that I have multiple versions of boost installed. I am not sure which ones I can safely remove.

Code:
I] dev-libs/boost
     Available versions:

        (1.37)  ~1.37.0-r1

        (1.41)  1.41.0-r3
        (1.42)  ~1.42.0 ~1.42.0-r1 1.42.0-r2
        (1.45)  ~1.45.0
        (1.46)  1.46.1-r1
        (1.47)  ~1.47.0 ~1.47.0-r1
        (1.48)  1.48.0-r2
        (1.49)  ~1.49.0-r1
        (1.50)  [M]~1.50.0
        {debug doc +eselect expat icu mpi python static-libs test tools}
     Installed versions:  [b]1.42.0-r2[/b](1.42)(08:32:02 07/08/11)(eselect python -debug -doc -icu -mpi -static-libs -test -tools) [b]1.46.1-r1[/b](1.46)(02:35:15 11/05/11)(eselect python -debug -doc -icu -mpi -static-libs -test -tools) [b]1.48.0-r2[/b](1.48)(12:41:40 07/18/12)(eselect python -debug -doc -icu -mpi -static-libs -test -tools)

Code:
emerge -p --depclean boost

Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Calculating removal order...

>>> These are the packages that would be unmerged:

 dev-libs/boost
    selected: 1.42.0-r2 1.46.1-r1
   protected: none
     omitted: 1.48.0-r2

All selected packages: dev-libs/boost-1.46.1-r1 dev-libs/boost-1.42.0-r2

>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
>>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed.

Packages installed:   1007
Packages in world:    257
Packages in system:   42
Required packages:    1005
Number to remove:     2

Same goes for boost-build. Thanks. I will remove these ones.

I built one package (media-gfx/hugin) that required one version of boost, while one of its dependencies required an earlier version.
