Yes Franz,
that's the downside Phillip. But only if you have done such things, franzf mentioned.
In this case, you could eventually save some work, in doing a Backup of this index database before deleting the directory, with the help of the Strigi symbol.
Do a right click on it, go to the third Tab, called backup i presume.
Save the file on a secure place and try to restore afterwords with the same tool, if this operation of deleting the nepomuk directory has solved your case.
Doing a regulary backup of your home directory, especially before such operations is always a good idea
I don't know if this tool works perfect at all, but give it a try and let us know, if you have some things tagged before its worth to restore.
Regards, Andy. _________________ If you want to see a Distro done right, compile it yourself! |

I deleted all files (as root under another user):
| Code: | | #rm - rf $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/* |
After more than one week of usage I comfirm my system is stable after deleting these files.
First of all many thanks for great support, from all in this thread.
There are a couple of remaining issues around the root casue of this problem, I think;
1) It is unconfortable not to know when and why the files got corrupted. I suspect (but do not know for shure) that the corruption may have happened during a forced hard shutdown of my system. I still have problems with nvidia-drivers, which freezes my system completely from time to time (se e.g. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-919412-start-0.html or http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-925156-start-0.html). When this occures, I have to do a manual hard reboot by using the power button.
2) It is also worrying that nepomuk can not handle the case, detect the corruption and restore faulty files. The corruption is likely to happen in the future.
As a final comment, I have not really identifed the root casue to a deeper level than that one, or several of the files under $HOME/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/* is corrupt in some sense. Has anyone gone deeper into understanding which file and what faulty data is the real root casue? _________________ /Phil |
