Today it was announced that E17 is working on releasing very soon. I've waited for this for years. I really hope that a release gives it much more visibility and increases the number of developers on the project.

Isn't the e17 release something like the oss equivalent of the fusion constant (the use of nuclear fusion is, at any given time, 20 to 50 years in the future)?
If they indeed do an actual release, great! I mean, the not released stuff has been stable for years, so why not officially release it?

We just have to fix this one tiny thing... Oooh and that one. Almost there now. Hang on, what that?

e17 looked awesome in 2005, since 2008 it has just looked like the devs have been developing something from 2005

I thought e17 used a Rolling Never-Release model.

Last I tried it in the early/mid 00s, it was horribly ugly, but I think that was a UI problem more than just skin.

My opinion is tainted by having tried to repeatedly kill myself through the use of e16.

Oh, come on. Ridiculous huge black glossy blobs and bevels? It is like a exaggerated parody of old Apple interfaces, only with uglier colors.

I just love the infinite twiddly knobs of power that is the control panel on E17. Reminds me of OS/2 WARP.

It is? E17 is a lot different from E16....still a bit chunky but looks nothing like a Mac.

OS/2 WARP was tits. I spent a lot of time waiting for it to come out and waiting to have a machine that could make use of it's awesomeness, and then it was like coitus interruptus.

The reference to it in your previous statement doesn't make sense, so I was just trying to figure out why you mentioned it.

I bought it for I think $80. It seemed very snappy compared with Windows. I was hoping IBM was going to be able to throw enough weight behind it to make it a decent hobbyist OS. Oh well.

I was hoping it was going to blow Windows away and become the OS of choice, but they took too long getting it out.
