Hi all,
I just emerged vlc and experienced a bug :

[0x194a1e8] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.

From what I found, this is due to nonexistent machine instruction, which can be cause by wrong CFLAGS or USE flags.
I tried to change some use flags but fruitlessly.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do now actually

Ok I see 
I changed my CFLAGS and re-emerged vlc. Something seems to have changed since the VLC icon appeared but the same error occurs when I run vlc.
I think this is due to other packages from which vlc depends but I don't know which ones.
Btw I should probably re-emerge all packages to build them with the right march ? |

I'm not 100% sure these are the correct flags for you CPU. Remerge ffmpeg with the new CFLAGS and try to watch some videos in a terminal (cvlc somevideo). If it works remerge all packages.

But I really would wonder if it only was the march. amdfam10 is the successor of k8. It would make no sense, if amdfam10 would not support all instrucitons k8 can handle.

I'm not an expert but backward incompatibility doesn't sound so foolish for CPU. As reducing the set of instruction enables to get shorter words.
