During my month portage update, I got this:
Code:
checking whether the compiler supports -fvisibility=hidden... yes
checking whether the compiler supports -xldscope=hidden... no
checking whether to use Loongson MMI assembler... no
checking whether to use MMX intrinsics... no
configure: error: x86 MMX intrinsics not detected

!!! Please attach the following file when seeking support:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/pixman-0.26.0/work/pixman-0.26.0_build/config.log
 * ERROR: x11-libs/pixman-0.26.0 failed (configure phase):
 *   econf failed
 *
 * Call stack:
 *          ebuild.sh, line   85:  Called src_configure
 *        environment, line 3504:  Called xorg-2_src_configure
 *        environment, line 4362:  Called autotools-utils_src_configure

 *   phase-helpers.sh, line  467:  Called die

I'm not sure I even need pixman since this is a server that never runs X, but just it seems I need it if I want "gobject-introspection" which seems important, but maybe I don't need that either.

We need to see why the test failed.

Your CFLAGS are unusual. Why do you build the entire system without optimization? Disabling optimizations also disables flow analysis required for some security features.

Thanks for catching that. I had "-O0" for debugging something earlier. I have removed it. That fixed it. Thanks.

If you do not specify otherwise, gcc will default to -O0. Since you failed to specify any optimization level, you are implicitly building with -O0.

Hm, okay. So I changed my CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS to:
Code:
-march=native -O3

but I'm getting the same error.

Okay, fixed it with:

Code:

CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=core2 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

Dont forget
Code:
source /etc/make.conf
;-)
