I have come across the same issue when updating the kernel > 3.2. I have been able to solve the issue by setting:
Code: | CONFIG_FIRMWARE_IN_KERNEL=N |
and installing sys-kernel/linux-firmware
Cheers! _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved.

Any livecd/usb that supports the chroot command can be used to install gentoo. Suggest try sysresccd or ubuntu. If ubuntu; Code: | sudo -i #or sudo su -
mkdir /mnt/gentoo | then follow handbook. building a custom minimal install cd is feasible but tedious. _________________ Defund the FCC. |
