A couple of New Zealand journalists speaking on New Zealand's national public radio channel shortly before a World War I remembrance day (Anzac Day) made disparaging remarks about Australians and their soldiers. Here it is reported on an Aussie news site:

Australians are upset, particularly about being called "bludgers" by Kiwis, of all people. Here is some example reaction (bits of a thread from topix.com):

These "Radio Anouncers" are after their 5 minutes of fame at the expense of those that died or were injured or fought and were forever joined in a strong Tasman alliance. They (the RAs) are just ignorant scum really! |

I listen to this show on the way home from work some days, and I heard this. She's on old story, from 2 months ago.

To be honest, I guess the relationship is probably a little strained at the moment. New Zealand, with it's free (as in speech) economy suffered a bit during the recession, and with the multiple earth-quakes in Christchurch on top of that, many kiwis are deciding to leave in record numbers, with Australia, who didn't suffer at all during the recession thanks to a mining boom in West Australia, being the obvious choice. Unfortunately, the Australians are starting to feel the global economic pinch, and so questions will be asked.
My brother and sister are in Australia, and most of the people I hung around with at university are also over there. Some have told me of being harassed for being kiwis.

You only had 2 single quarters of negative gdp growth. Unlike us, who had a 5 quarters in a row in 2008/9, and we've just limped along since then. Our highest quarter of growth was pretty much below your average (since 2008).

While Australia was paired off with the USA as the USA's most loyal ally, the Kiwi-scum were busy sucking up to China, which has the unique distinction of being the most brutal regime in world history (at least according to the number of murdered citizens).
