We've not had a name recognizable star from boxing in the recent times. Last I recall is Lennox Lewis and his game was his reach because he was so tall.

Where are the likes of Mike Tyson these days? Has the sport become obsolete?

It's probably bad marketing. I think boxing is more exciting than most sports. Then again, I'm not really the "sports type", so it makes sense that I don't know any big names.

He's not heavy weight.
He just lost.

Although he finds inspiration from Bruce Lee.

You never said you were interested in heavy weight, until now he was considered the best ...

Turn down the volume. Very bad soundtrack.

Two guys beating the shit out of each other isn't a sport. Just a glorified, regulated bar fight. IMHO

Ah the moral high-ground. Must be quite a view from there.

That's not the issue. You watch stuff because its fascinating, not because its chivalrous.

Not really writing that from the moral high ground. It has more to do with what Prenj wrote. It's just hard to understand the fascination, although I acknowledge that a staggering amount of people find this fascinating for some weird reason. Hoped you'd be able to shed some light on that.

(You've earned a lot of those)

I watch fights for that exact reason. I like to watch the pure physical ability of a total athlete. Boxing is ok, but it's just one aspect of fighting. MMA is more complete for my taste.

I watched George St-Pierre vs Koscheck fight in Montreal when I was there, it was amazing, I must say. Home crowd was nuts, atmosphere was really something, but in the end after the fight, they just relaxed and hugged and you could see that they were really nice guys.

There are thugs as well, but you don't identify with them, you watch more from academic point of view, and cheer for the other guy.

I watch it for the thrill of seeing the other guy getting beat up. The satisfaction that a Tyson fight gave, hasn't been felt in later present day fights.

There are too many belts + boxing 'organisations', which are just 'on paper' organisations set up to make money. Boxing is a good sport, but there are too many people with fingers in pies. There needs to be some FIFA-style organisation that unifies enough belts and organisations, and can create a global championship / ladder system thing, and so everyone gets a fair piece of TV rights, there's enough money going into the local gym so they can promote boxing in the community, and boxers can work their way up the ladder in a clear and transparent manner, with regular local/international events.

I guess the real reason you haven't heard of boxing lately is because Vitali Klitschko, who inherited the important belt from Lewis (the WBC heavyweight) sets up fights in Europe, and he only fights twice a year.
