On June 7th 2012, KDE 4.8.4 was released, any ideas on how long in general KDE updates normally get into the main portage tree? Thanks for any and all information. :D

Usually almost immediately, but this time KDE upstream decided to go funny again and bring some experience breaking patches into the mix. nepomuk was completely broken and 4.8.4 now depends on a beta version of soprano only to be found in the KDE overlay, just to name one. ;)

It's not that the kde-team said "we depend on soprano-beta", it's just that there was added another section to the chapter "Qt Sockets don't like threading" in the nepomuk-saga.
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420439
I posted a patch, that simply replaces the Qt Sockets by the new Soprano::Socket (extracted from the diff 2.7.6->2.7.56), and the problems are gone. But that's a quite large change, an possibly too critical to be released with a Gentoo revbump.
I pray for a quick new soprano stable release... *fingers crossed*

I know, but I was saving words. Btw, there we have soprano 2.7.57 already.

Anyone have a update as to when the newish KDE will be in the tree? I'd like to update before the next heat wave gets here. Poor A/C works hard nowadays.

folks, why the heck are you that impatiently with the update roll out?
I'd rather wait for a couple of days than install broken stuff. If you want to be more keen, you're still free to use the KDE overlay and get the experimental stuff from there.

I know there was a problem and according to the bug report it is fixed. I was just curious whether they ran into something else. I do want it to work when it hits the tree and for problems to be fixed but still curious as to when it will hit the tree.

If it takes a few more days, a week or something to get it working right, that's fine. After all, if it is moved to the tree and something is broken, it's not going to do us any good anyway.

I've been running it for an hour. Haven't seen any issues so far. I don't use kmail or kdepim stuff though, so I can't speak to that.

I'm not certain it is related to KDE but I had to upgrade sip to get some other package to upgrade. It's a bug but I have not got around to filing it yet. I think it was PyQt4 that failed to configure.

Other than the above, I been running all night and no other compile problems. I install with kde-meta so that should be pretty much everything.
