|
|
i have already set up 1 gentoo pc and i am finalizing a laptop install now but i want to take it a notch up.
here is what i would like to achieve:
-2 node cluster
-dual screen and multiseat capability (2 mice -2 keyboards)
-private gentoo mirror
-Internet antivirus proxy with caching
-encrypted wireless access point (will mod some antennas for range)
on top of that i would like to use movement from additional wireless mices for digital readouts on machinery hence the garage pc
i plan on building a big stainless steel custom case.
i will also use pci ribond or risers with em tape- are they any good?
list of what i have on hands right now :
2 ASUS p5ld2 mobos (one has a pci internet card since the embeded internet plug is broken) 2 go and 4 go kingston 667mhz ram and 1.67 ghz core 2 duo processors.
2 ATI RADEON 16XX series video cards
2 identical ACER vga screens.
2 54mbps DLINK 4-bit pci cards
1 TP-LINK ethernet card (for broken mobo)
2 logitech old g15 keyboards
2 old g-7 mices for digital readouts for proof of concept readout on the lathe.
any advices on the thing as i never done a such project before.
what i should plan for the case
how to isolate mices and obtain their coordinates for DRO
possible mice problems (could end up using 8 m ices )
anyting else?
-2 for lathe |

two questions,
- how do you intend to connect both nodes?
- why would you need internet antivirus?

i intend on connecting the nodes with full duplex duplex pci cards.
The scanning/firewall proxy feature would be to protect other computers (especially the windows ones that my brother and dad own) |

I think that it is better to use av on each computer rather than one for all as if it get compromised, you are kinda screwed. _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein

full duplex means two 1gbps connections over rj45 ethernet cables between nodes (upstream/downstream).
the network antivirus would be an additional protection for windows computers as they already have antiviruses, and i would run scans on my gentoo boxes too. |

I see, I might have a different definition of cluster than you, so what would be the gain of such connection? _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein

| 2 nodes should allow me to use twice as much pci-e cards for various applications. |

so the cluster is just joint pci slots? not other resources? _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein
