PostPosted: Sat May 26, 2012 5:02 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED] sys-libs/glibc-2.14.1-r3 failed (compile phase) Reply with quote

This is my first post, so if this is in the wrong section, or if I should pastebin the code or not, etc. please let me know, I will try to be as helpful as possible seeing as I am requesting help here :D

Originally this failed to compile during emerge -uDNav world after first installing gentoo, but most other packages compile just fine (enlightenment overlay, docky, firefox, etc.)

I have also done emerge --depclean and revdep-rebuild, but everytime I do revdep-rebuild (as well as updating world) compilation fails for glibc.

Oh, and this may be a problem, originally my profile was set to hardened with selinux, and that what I compiled everything with, but it was too much of a pain and I didn't really want it that bad (just toying with it), so I changed my profile to 'default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop' and thats when I ran emerge -uDNav world.

I am adding the two things it suggested to add below, if you need the complete build log or environment etc. just let me know, thank you for any help :-)

Code:
ERROR: compile
ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.14.1-r3 failed (compile phase):
  make for x86 failed

Call stack:
          ebuild.sh, line   85:  Called src_compile
        environment, line 3303:  Called eblit-run 'src_compile'
        environment, line  841:  Called eblit-glibc-src_compile
  src_compile.eblit, line  211:  Called src_compile
        environment, line 3303:  Called eblit-run 'src_compile'
        environment, line  841:  Called eblit-glibc-src_compile
  src_compile.eblit, line  219:  Called toolchain-glibc_src_compile
  src_compile.eblit, line  130:  Called die
The specific snippet of code:
emake || die "make for ${ABI} failed"

If you need support, post the output of 'emerge --info =sys-libs/glibc-2.14.1-r3',
the complete build log and the output of 'emerge -pqv =sys-libs/glibc-2.14.1-r3'.
The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.14.1-r3/temp/build.log'.
The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.14.1-r3/temp/environment'.

Welcome to the wonderful gentoo forums :D ! We're all in this together, users helping each other <- that's what this is all about!

Please pastebin the build.log. To determine what the trouble is, we'll first need to see the error. Switching from hardened profile to a "normal" one is no trivial task, I think it would actually be easier to start from scratch with a stage3. You'd need to re-emerge your whole world, actually the safest would be:
Code:
emerge -e system
emerge -e world

To make sure your base toolchain isn't hardened anymore. There's a high chance your issue is related to that.

Alright, if it is that much of a pain then I will just emerge -e system and emerge -e world, if that doesn't work out then I will just redo from stage 3, thanks for the advice! I will post how it all turns out.

Well after a long process of emerge -e system, glibc failed to compile (which took forever to get to on my old celeron laptop). So I just reinstalled from a stage 3, kind of glad I did because I figured I would try another minimal wm/de. This turned out to be awesome, which is pretty awesome, despite me still learning how to customize it. I have a lot of it down, just need to install wicked, which I believe is in an overlay...which I find annoying...but oh well, thanks for all the help!

I'm having a very close to the same problem as well.

revdep-rebuild shows no broken libraries, and I have plenty of space.

Code:
