for the last months me and my colleague have been working on LIMBS OFF, a fighting game with a heavy focus of physics. kind of Super Smash Bros. in space.
while far from done, we have reached a new milestone and are putting out a new release. though you cannot yet punch or kick, we have a fun little gameplay mechanic in which the characters get lighter when they crash into each other. when the characters get too light, they die.
don't worry, it is more SFW than it sounds. demo video:
https://secure.plaimi.net/games/limbs-off/demo.php
get the game here:
https://secure.plaimi.net/games/limbs-off/limbs-off-1.0_alpha2.ebuild
(or get the live ebuild in the Sunrise overlay if you have that)
install by doing:
$ ./configure && make && sudo make install
run with:
$ limbs-off
(or via your desktop environment's menu, if you have one.)
tell me what you think!
if you are a developer, or would like to be one, check out the repository: https://github.com/stiell/limbs-off
if you want to discuss the game in our forum instead of here, check: https://secure.plaimi.net/forum/read.php?5,10 |

it seems the game is of limited interest, LOL. we presented it at our uni and received a very good response, but no one seemed to care the next day. so we're still struggling to find contributors.
anyway, now we have some support for character sprites in the github version. I am working on orientation so that you can have a left and a right sprite for body and head. ref <https://secure.plaimi.net/forum/read.php?6,9>. |

I just watched the demo video, not bad. Seems like a good development / learning tool.
I could be mistaken, but it seems like it could get boring quickly.
Unfortunately my efforts to learn programming always seem to get interrupted. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.

the physics "feels"/looks quite good
unfortunately I'm not programming and currently don't have time for programming - all the best for more contributors |
thanks for watching the video.

thanks to you too. it will be boring *very* quickly because we are lacking core features such as the ability to punch and kick, resulting in very few options in terms of strategy. once we get that, and eventually more planets and inter-planetary travel, I think it will be very fun. but we need either more contributors or more time to work on the game for this to become reality. |

Ah, OK. That makes more sense. Hope you're able to turn it into what you envision. Good luck! _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.
