I got problem with installing Gentoo on SSD drive - Plextor M3 128 GB. I can't even load kernel and all time after initial boot seeing this - http://6g6.eu/sih0-screen6.jpg
I configured kernel with all possible modules - nothing, then installed Ubuntu on SSD and took its .config and passed to Gentoo, compiled kernel - not helped. Then tried genkernel, same problem.

Details:

My dmesg output from chroot http://pastebin.com/3hMTJnyf
SSD parameters http://pastebin.com/Zv55yAi0

fstab configuration:

Code:
/dev/sda1 /boot ext4 discard,noauto,noatime 1 2
/dev/sda3 / ext4 discard,noatime 0 1
/dev/sda2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/sdb3 /home ext4 noatime 0 0

p.s. dev/sdb3 - not ssd

I didn't compile all system in chroot only installed gentoo-sources and genkernel.

Demontager,

Your kernel panic image does not provide the actual panc message.
It will go something like this ...
Kernel Panic ... We need that line of text.
Attempting to kill init
unknown-block(x,y)
attempting to sleep in interrupt
are all popular causes.

Ahenobarbi, kernel 3.2.12 recent from portage.

Demontager,

If the message is gone from the screen, you can't get it back.
These boot time panics normally happen before the root filesystem is mounted read/write, so there is no log. Well, there is no place to write a log to, is more accurate.

Post your
Code:
lspci -k
output
The content of your
Code:
/boot/grub/grub.conf

Put your kernel .config file on a pastebin site. Make friends with wgetpaste.
Boot the liveCD, mount your root filesystem at /mnt/gentoo, then
Code:
wgetpaste /mnt/gentoo/usr/src/linux/.config

Post the URL you get back.

Depending on the age of your CD, the default pastebin site may not work.
Code:
wgetpaste -h
will tell you how to overcome that.

Demontager,

Ubuntu config is useless, it has practically everything as modules and Ubuntu install generates an initrd for you. The only thing Ubuntu (or any other Linux) can help you with is providing a list of used drivers with lspci -k.

Any possible modules will not do, they may even interfere with each other.
What you need to do is to use any Linux CD that can read your SSD, look at lspci -k output and enable all necessary drivers in your custom kernel.

Demontager,

A normal speed video from an LCD monitor does not capture the few lines we need.
If you fix your video mode, so you have more on the screen the message will still be there.

Ha, we have the same motherboard :D ! I'm using a SSD too: Corsair Force GT 120GB but I didn't have any problem though.
Here is my kernel config: http://pastebin.com/4tiNE6aL
I'm using zen-kernel by the way, but any other flavour should adapt it when running 'make menuconfig'. I use genkernel.
