after 8 hours of upgrade no mouse no keyboard...

on kernel loading says: failed to load udev among other errors

Does it say why udev failed to load ?
Did you have any warnings about kernel config during udev build ?

Did you upgrade the kernel, too? Did you build your own kernel or use genkernel?

Are you using stable (2.1 series) or testing (2.2 series) Portage?

*start-stop-daemon: /sbin/udev does not exist
*failed to start udev
*ERROR:udev failed to start
I'm booting with kernel 3.2.12-gentoo

Is that perhaps a typo? Does it say,
Code:
*start-stop-daemon: /sbin/udevd does not exist
instead? In any case, could you post the output of
Code:
equery files udev | grep sbin
please?
