Damnit. You guys on the left just don't get it, do you?

IGNORE THIS GUY!!!

Your responses to his points are the primary reason he's still around.

He is around because advertisers pay to buy ads on his program. They buy ads because of his audience. You are his audience.

You enjoy some guy on the radio rave on like a deranged lunatic in the face of reason?

I have to say, I have much better things to do with my sensory organs than that.

Here's a good example:

We really get off on that kind of thing. Because you guys always bite.

Limbaugh is a pig, but nobody says you have to feed him. I do, however, find it amusing to watch civilized people wrestle with him.

Thats because politics is just a substitute for the tribal affiliations that humans crave. You enjoy being told that you are superior to those idiots who believe something else. Religion, politics, race, it is all the same.

If wallowing in that shit makes you happy, then enjoy yourself.

Constant free publicity means never having to spend a dime on marketing.

I never listen to Obama's weekly radio address.

i can't wait until gays can marry so we can get the fuck over with this stupid fucking red herring issue. i don't give a fuck who you want to fuck. the fact that who you can fuck is a national issue is an embarrassment to voters everywhere. there are dozens of issues far more important than who you can fuck, and this is apparently some spearhead issue.

and before you say "but... but... this isn't about who you fuck... it's about who you marry," getting married means getting divorced, and everyone knows that when you get divorced, that bitch totally fucks you.

well, well. I think this is an issue you should take up with republicans. If I were american, I would certainly feel as you do. that is, that political discourse is being spent on a topic that affects so few would piss me off to no end.

The problem is that a lot of the time, when you guys "call him out," you fall flat on your ass. Or you'll say stuff to/about him designed to weaken him that he uses to only make himself stronger. I argue that a lot of the reason his audience listens to him is to observe these occurrences, and you make them possible. He is a spark and you are fuel.

You have a point here. Don't think that I agree with everything Limbaugh does and says.

his point was the media is lazy and looks for provocative sound bites. He's right. Move on.

Limbaugh is actually very insightful and makes a lot of good points. He also regularly blurts out controversial and offensive things, because it's good for business (just like the cover of Time right now). Every time he does this, liberals pass it around in their echo chamber and go ape-shit, this thread being a an example.

And his ratings go up, and he makes more money. Wash, rinse, repeat. He's a marketing genius.

The only echo chamber he gets rattled around is his own. His audience? Is his echo-chamber. At this point most rational people are like 'Limbaugh raving like a loon? In other news, the Sun rose'. And last time I checked, being a PR disaster for your sponsors tends not to be good business in the long run, unless he nabs a deal with an equally loony right-wing 'think-tank', although even those are wearing down their own sponsorships. While you're right that shock and controversy can sometimes be used for marketing to grab attention, when you're a blatant and persistent bigot nobody will want anything to do with you beyond your own little bigoted cult following.

Those same advertisers will jump right back. The lemming public is notoriously flighty and absent-minded. That happened just a few weeks ago, and today, if somebody wrote, "ZOMG <company foo> is advertising with Rush Limbaugh!", people would be like, "meh".

Also, I don't know what echo chamber Limbaugh is in, but it's none that I've been exposed to. The only time I ever hear a quote of him is when MSNBC or somebody in here says something like, "ZOMG Limbaugh called Obama 'boy' FFS and all Republicans are racist homophobic warmongering bible-thumping three-toothed redneck Wall Street Banker assholes who hate 99% of the population!"

Sometimes it isn't really controversial, but bigots are intolerant of thought.
