| I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but I just recently upgraded my Asus U24E to 16 GB of dual channel corsair 1600 and it's working great with my i7 cpu. One thing I'm curious now is what's the best way to utilize it. Can or should I figure out a way to throw the entire root file system into a ramdisk upon bootup? But I'm not sure how long that might take off of my Samsung 470 Sata-II (damn Asus messed up Sata-III SSD support in bios). I don't do much gaming, but I do use VirtualBox so I was thinking of possibly mounting machines in ramdisk. Perhaps I should only mount certain parts of root in ramdisk? Any ideas would be appreciated. |

| First and easy, put your /tmp and /var/tmp on tmpfs. |

Ah thanks. I implemented that suggestion by putting the following into my fstab:
| Code: | tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid,noexec 0 0
tmpfs /var/tmp/ tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0 |
Then I ran across this thread:

But I'm not sure if it's worth going through the trouble or not. I also installed the prelink daemon and added it to default boot level. But I didn't go through with configuring it yet.
It almost seems like it's too much of a pita to copy to and from the ramdisk at every bootup and shutdown. Especially on this laptop if I ever run out of battery. |

I would actual write it like this:

That would be a good setup for Tin Hat Linux, which runs entirely in RAM (and is based on hardened gentoo, by the way).
Just be sure that, after your session is over, you insert the flash drive deep in your anus for maximum security. I can't over-emphasize the importance of that.

| Lol at the jokes. I actually originally got it to run virtual machines on, but I've been too busy to set everything up lately. And that's pretty interesting about tin hat linux, I'll have to look into that further. |
