Would you suggest that things become more understandable when I explain them?
Well, so sorry in this particular case... I am neither authorized nor knowledgeable.
I would just comment that... French have been... as usual, well, as I expect them to be :
Sarkozy+Hollande = 50% of the voters => A half of us are OK with conventional thinking when the other half disagrees with the system.
Sarkozy~=Hollande => Among those agreeing with the system, a half of them are right-wingers when the other half are lefties.
That, among other cultural exceptions, explains why the President of France, whoever he is, is, when elected, actually supported by only a fourth of the French.
To understand even more the paradox you highlight, I will report here a comment about French presidential elections I had read years ago in some English newspaper...
Since our revolution, we do enjoy our capability to behead our king at regular intervals... _________________ In theory there are no differences between theory and practice. In practice, there are.

It's worse in the U.S. Only about 69% of the population is actually eligible to vote. Only 53% of those eligible to vote actually do so, with about 47% of them vote Democrat or Republican.
So, when the popular vote is close, our Presidents (e.g., Bush, Obama) are elected by only 25% of eligible voters and only 17% of their actual constituency. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

That's gonna be an interesting time this year. With Greece and France elections, the chances of euro breakup has markedly risen. _________________ There is, a not-born, a not-become, a not-made, a not-compounded. not really.
Also, nobody has explained so far why a bankrupcy of Greece would be a bad thing?
England has done it several times in the past. _________________

Bankrupcy of Greece would have been a bad thing when almost all private EU banks were detaining Greek's debt.
All these banks would have gone bankrupt making them unable to guarantee the debt of the other countries.
Since the last agreement made in March, private EU banks are no longer or far less involved. Greek's debt is now in its vast majority over the Greek's own shoulders... so I believe it is now more complicated to explain why a bankrupcy of Greece would be a bad thing.
One would certainly need to resort to some old-fashioned Ideal, Utopia from the good-old-days...
But... as everybody knows... God is dead. _________________ In theory there are no differences between theory and practice. In practice, there are.

so, every country declares bankrupy. Banks go down - and nothing changes in the end, at least for the worse... _________________

Somebody care to notice today's date and its significance in Europe and correlate that to Hollande's win? _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

Yes, Angela Merkel surrendered. We are probably starting into a short period of relative sanity in European politics.
Also 7. Mai 1832: a fucking Bavarian Wittelsbacher was chosen as King of Greece. |

You just need the proper enabling cognitive distortions. For example, keep telling yourself that you're an intellectual. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.
