Hi,
the maximum volume on my X220 (intel hda) is way lower than in Windows. All mixers are at the top. Now I found the option --nocheck in amixer and am finally able to increase the volume of the notebook to a good level. But where does this maximum (64k) come from? Why is it so low compared to Windows? Is there some alsa configuration option, where I can increase this maximum so that the GUI mixers also are aware of it? (At the moment they all max out at 64k, so I cannot use them to control the volume when I want to get above this artificial barrier).
Thanks

| That doesn't sound right… on my X220, I rarely have to go above 30-35 (out of 100) in alsamixer, although I suppose in Windows, I usually keep it at 4-6%. |

Are you using external speakers? Then, of course, they could amplify in addition to the signal of the notebook. And with such speakers I also do not have any problems. However, using only the built in speakers or headphones is sometimes quite annoying.
And you also described the fact that the volume settings in Windows and Linux are behaving differently. As I already wrote: the hardware seems to be able to output a higher volume - it's just the software limit set within alsa. snd-hda-intel does not seem to support a parameter like that. |
