Dolphin 60-120 sec launch delay, then frozen, not responding

After a world update today, plus a --depclean, revdep-rebuild, emerge @preserved-libs and all appearing normal, apparently a complex problem (for me at least) with dolphin has arisen.

Just tried re-merging nepomuk, and while it installed, this looks pretty bad.

try downgrading icu.

NathanZachary seems to have a similar problem (but in conjunction with chromium)

Thanks Veldrin- Just did that to icu-4.8.1.1-r1, and revdep-rebuild turns up nothing, but I rebuilt nepomuk anyway.
dolphin gives now gives me this:

Finished up the merge @preserved-rebuild, no problems. Rebooted, and have same problems, and this time "dolphin in a terminal eventually spawned two instances of dolphin, both completely frozen. Now I'm googling for DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown, and have found many, many hits- hope to find some clues there. Anyway, here's what most recently happens.

I removed everything dolphin & nepomuk related in /home/wrc/.kde4/share/apps and /home/wrc/.kde4/share/config, and rebuilt dolphin,then rebooted.

What's a mystery is why creating a new user didn't work, as that served the same purpose as deleting those .kde files.

Dolphin seems to function normally now. Of course I have to reconfigure dolphin to my liking- no big deal.

However, I just tried to open gwenview and SystemSettings and they have the same exact problems. Guess I'll need to do that one too.

Spoke to soon. While I was re-configuring dolphin, when I tried to enable the Information panel, dolphin immediately froze up solid.

A click to close dolphin brings up the "not responding" dialog, and dolphin will close. It then reopens from the menu normally, but without an enabled Information panel, of course. Places and Folders can be enabled, and configuring toolbars still works. My alias kdol for "kdesu dolphin" even works normally.

That Information panel is really useful- I use it all the time for file previews, and can't do without it.

Launching from a terminal now shows only this, and immediately pops up a working dolphin instance. Not totally solved yet, but good progress and functionality. Guess I'll try deleting the entire .kde4 directory next, or wait for 4.8.2.

Try remergin qt-core. It helped me with missing icui18n when starting apps. I saw this error when running qt and gtk aps.
Chromium still segfaults.
It is weird that revdep-rebuild doesn't find anything on qt-core.

Thanks, much- good tip. I just tried to open systemsettings from a terminal. It worked, and some items like appearance, display, and some others work normally, but if I try others, such as desktop search & ppowermanagement->activities settings. Thing are certainly misbehaving. What could suddenly be causing this premature dbus connection creation before QcoreApplication? Some new change in qt-core, as your re-merge of qt-core might relate too? I just don't know.

Interesting link, thanks. I think you're probably right. Last night, I decided to rebuild all qt stuff, and then all kde-meta. That worked out pretty good. Everything kde now works normally, however when I launch systemsettings from a terminal I still get the two "QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave" lines. Doesn't seem so far to affect anything.

I noticed in my qt-* emerge it pulled in dev-libs/libdbusmenu-qt as well as rebuilding qt-dbus. Maybe that, and needing to rebuild ALL of kde was the whole problem, as all of this happened after the qt-update from 4.8.0 to 4.8.1. Strange that revdep-rebuild or emerge @preserved-rebuild didn't remind me to rebuild the kde packages after a full qt packages update. At least that's my current theory. :roll:

I have the same problem: Dolphin takes 5-10 minutes to launch. Have anyone found a root casue for this behavior?
