When started using the 2.6 kernel, I couldnt emerge nforce-net, I used anoher version of the drivers and now i colud emerge but when I start i get the message "Failed to bring Eth0 up"
The card works on the livecd with the 2.6 kernel so it got to able to get it to work, right? The networkcard's name is "3Com MAC + BroadCom AC101L PHY" and its integrated on my motherbort. The motherboard is ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with a nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset. Anyone having the same problem? What can I do? Help me!

I have had to use an externel nforce net module for 2.6 kernels. Download the following driver: http://home.earthlink.net/~paulsdead/nvnet.tar.gz and make sure you're booted into the 2.6 kernel before you make. Then copy nvnet.ko to /lib/modules/2.6bla/kernel/drivers/net, modprobe and you're set. Then add nvnet to your modules.autoload.

Hi,

I got this working last night. Get this patch:
http://www.hailfinger.org/carldani/linux/patches/forcedeth/

patch the kernel, then under 'drivers -> eithernet' (or whatever) look for the 'Reverse engineered nvidia thingy' and build that into your kernel.

Then you'll have working ehternet and will be able to recompile nvidia-kernel if you need it..

Nick

It already is included in latest mm-sources 2.6 kernel so if you don't feel ok with patching it by hand, then run mm-sources.

Dilinger: "make" worked
But when i used "modprobe nvnet" i got some bad errormessages like "unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter", dmesg says "Unknown parameter optimazation", whats wrong now?

I tried the mm-sources but it didnt work, maybe its just for the nVidia card on the board? Iam trying to use the 3Com card..

Does it work fine with my motherboard and the integrated 3Com ethernet adapter?

I have the same motherboard. Networking seems OK. Have 3com in kernel (3c9xx, 3c5xx), although i have encountered some problems on emerge sync (probably not network adapter related).

gentoo-dev-sources, 2.6.0-test11-gentoo-r1

1. cd /usr/portage/net-misc/nforce-net
2. emerge nforce-net-1.0.0261-r2.ebuild
this solves the problem for the nforce2-net in 2.6.x
