OMFG. WOW. This is amazing

I've never even heard of this piece. I can play La Campanella, Tarantella, and Feux Follets... but this piece makes my hands and forearms cry even thinking about it.

New challenge. By 2022, I'll have this piece nailed :P

Listening to part 1 now, really good. I'll have to add it to my purchase list. I've liked everything I've heard by B.

Seems like it is difficult for the sole purpose of making difficult, especially given the write up. For my tastes, isn't at all compelling to listen to, but watching her play, it does look difficult to master.

@tylerwylie: Ypres guy's voice reminds me of the Crash Test Dummies, so hard for me to listen to it. I like some of CTD, but mixing it with Ypres makes me want to laugh.

The whole "UnDeveloped" album has been unbelievably good. My favorite from Mr. Ogre Nivek.

The song is pretty good, so I tried to listen to more OhGr. The music is not bad, but I don't like the guy singing. Anybody got any advice for types of music that sound like that, without the voice parts? Does such a thing exist?

Don't think so. If you want the piece to sound like it does, it must be composed in the way it was. This might result in it becoming difficult to play. But I don't hear anything in that piece that sounds like Liszt only did it to make it harder to play.

Regarding Woods of Ypres: Sounds more like Type O Negative in my opinion. Well, yeah, the CTD guy has a deep voice as well, but just give Typo's "Everyone I love is dead" or better still "Everything dies" a listen and you'll hear that Peter Steele's and the Ypres' guys voices are very similar.
Sounds great, though (listening to Kiss my ashes).

"Difficult for the sake of being difficult" is kind of a figure of speech.

I like some of Type O Negative. To me, their voices don't sound at all similar. I'll try to remember to check those songs.

If a figure of speech means something in music then... the music surely does not deserve being played.

If you're Paul Wittgenstein that etude has a definite purpose.

A figure of speech has a specific meaning.

While probably not quite as amazing as the Liszt above, more to my taste and pretty amazing, too.

MetallicA - Master of Puppets played by Scott D. Davis (good audio, still image):

Sound not as good, but you can actually see him play:

Not bad, but I'm not a big Metallica fan.

Billy Joel did an interview / performance at some college. One of the questions had to do with covers, I forget exactly how. Billy demonstrated that some things just didn't work on the piano well. He demonstrated with Smoke on the Water. :D

The first time I heard this one (the acoustic version), I must have looped it a handful of times. I really like the song, and I _really_ like the piano in the acoustic version. I was seriously considering a piano / keyboard back then. 98-99 or so. She Talks to Angels.
