*sigh* tylerwylie, what have you done this time?

for the record, when two houses burnt in my town, they even got out the guinea pig... houses made of wood and cow manure... with temps around[/i] -16°C.

Speaking of fire, how 'bout the lolgov edition? The ol' "Let's start a fire so we're safer" theory.

Colorado governor suspends prescribed burns after deadly wildfire destroys homes

Lower North Fork Fire scorched 4,140 acres, 15 percent contained, 27 homes; 2 people found dead, 1 missing

When I left work the other night, the smoke from those fires was as thick as fog (at best 1/4 mile visibility). Luckily I live south of that, but it was pretty unreal watching it coming straight at us. Would have had taken some pictures of it, but I didn't have a camera at work and it was dark when I got home.

When you have some time after it's out, check out the aftermath. Then check out some of what the Hayman Fire looks like today. It's been a few years since I've driven by some of the Hayman areas. This marks 10 years, so I'll have to make a point to revisit it. I may try to do that on Sunday.

Who needs insurance for an apartment in Champagne, Illinois? So you run down to Farm & Family and get a couple new pair of Carharts and some underwear, then swing by WalMart for a new sleeping bag and spork.

I feel like I'm being too negative today. Am I being too negative?

Been through there a few times actually. I originally thought it was only a few years old when I first drove through there. The ground has stuff growing on it now, but its fairly barren with tons of dead trees still standing.

nope, just your usual self. You might even be a bit too far on the positive side... you mentioned underwear.

Yeah well it's especially bad paired with the "no naturally occurring fire is allowed to run it's course" policy as well. Prior to any controlled burns when natural burns were allowed underbrush didn't get as horribly over-grown. As a result most naturally occurring fires only consumed the underbrush and the larger trees still survived within the burned areas.

Did you hear about the Cerro Grande Fire in Las Alamos, NM?

I don't remember it if I did. I didn't really pay much attention to fires until I moved to CO. At first I was thinking it was part of the fires in AZ & NM last year.

I knew the Wallow fire was big, but I didn't realize it was _that_ big. Wow. Also Horeshoe 2.

Ah, here's the NM one I was thinking of: Las conchas.

The prostate (not "prostrate") is the real, Dharmic "third eye" of all men. The center of our being.

Yeah the Las Conchas fire was especially upsetting to me, and the Wallow fire caused such a constant smoke-screen across Albuquerque that I got strep throat in the middle of the hot horrible summer. Las Conchas was an accident caused from a branch falling on power lines. I don't recall what the cause of the Wallow fire was. But I brought up the Cerro Grande fire (which was much older) because it was related to your comment about lolgov with "fire management" which to me means "playing with fire" in the forest service's hands.

no, thank you. I don't drink Jägermeister anymore. Linie Aquavit is much better for the stomach.

Whitewater-Baldy Complex Fire, currently @ 278,039 acres, not contained. Surpassed the record from 2011 which was 156,293 acres.

A relatively small one in CO @ ~43k acres.

You guys need to knock that shit off. It contributes to Global Warming and species loss, and it probably causes cancer too. I notice this is only happening in redneck areas; you don't see any forest fires happening in blue states. Try to get some Scyents in your lives out there.
