blocked packages installing cinnamon

  • Quote

Post by zomzilla » Sun Mar 18, 2012 1:33 pm

hi,

trying to install cinnamon 1.4 (i am on testing) i get the error

<gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.0.1-r1:0 ("<gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.0.1-r1:0" is blocking gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.2.0.1-r1)

and further down

gnome-base/gnome-menus-2.30.5::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
gnome-base/gnome-menus:0[python] required by (gnome-extra/cinnamon-1.4::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)

(gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.2.0.1-r1::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
gnome-base/gnome-menus:3 required by (gnome-base/gnome-control-center-3.2.2-r1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)
>=gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.2.0.1-r1:3[introspection] required by (gnome-extra/cinnamon-1.4::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)

how can i solve this issue? there seems to be three versions of gnome-menu wanting to be installed and it doesnt work whether i manually install gnome-menus or not

i have updated my system aswell but to no avail

Do an "emerge -avuDN world" first, then "emerge -av cinnamon".

I have the same problem as the original poster. This didn't help.

I think the ebuild might be broken.

zomzilla,

Is the introspection use flag enabled for gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.2.0.1-r1? If not set it and re-emerge.

That looks like the problem

Good luck

The introspection flag is already set, so this isn't the problem.

This is what I get so it's not the ebuild

Maybe this will help - gnome-base/gnome-menus-3.0.1-r1 only requires the introspection and python use flags.

I am having the same problem. I installed 1.3 with no problems but now portage wants to update to 1.4 and is trying to pull in the blocked packages.

adding gnome-base/gnome-menus to package.keywords fixed the blocked packages. It may not work for everyone. Something wants gnome-menus-2.30 and adding it to keywords gnome-menus-3.0 gets pulled in but doesn't block gnome-menus-3.2 which is already installed on my machine. gnome-control center and gnome-shell seem to depend on it when using equery but trying to emerge them separately they do not try to pull it in. Im sure there is someone more knowledgable that can explain this.

Your dependency list fixed it for me. I'd unmasked a particular version of gnome-menus, not the right one for cinnamon-1.4.

Thanks.

Yeah, I just took the version number off gnome-menus in the /etc/portage/package.keywords file and it's now building cinnamon. Thanks to all of the above for the help.

I ended up here :

Code: Select all

bhaskar@GentooLinux_17:52:53_Wed Aug 22:~> sudo emerge -av cinnamon
Password:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Package mozjs185 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `mozjs185.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'mozjs185', required by '/usr/lib/pkgconfig/gjs-1.0.pc', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables CINNAMON_CFLAGS
and CINNAMON_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

mozjs185.pc is dev-lang/spidermonkey.
But adding your posts to not really related old threads is quite annoying.

@voidmage dude if it's really annoy you then please keep yourself refrain from giving answer. And I though it is very much related. Moreover I found so so many this kind of open ended discussion ,which has no perticular and concerete solution to the problem.

You better try to address those issues then flaming me for adding to a old thread...if nobody answer or have the answer then how do you term it as old???

I am coming to get solution or at least resolve others problem with very discrete and specific answer..nothing else...but I don't know about you.

It's about as related to the original problem as most "C compiler cannot create executables" are to each other.
