I recently decided to manually remove (emerge -C) and re-build (emerge -U gnome) as many gnome 2.4 packages as I could find on my box. howerver, gnome-base/libbonobo-2.4.0 consistently outputs the above error. I tried CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O1". Anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to compile? I want my Gnome back :(

Alright since everyone on this forum failed me, I answered the question myself. And you call yourselves umm... gentoo.. type, people, yeah. Heh, naw just kidding, it 'tis a good forum. But I do hope that this thread may help others who search the forums later. Basically because I unmerged gnome packages manually I think I ran into an issue where there should have been a dependency with libbonobo on either libgtop or gail, I don't know which one for sure. But basically the lesson is this, next time try the other lesser packages that are depended on by the larger all-inclusive package (in this case gnome) but aren't dependant on the package that failed while trying to merge the all-inclusive package (gnome). If that makes sense...
