I only want to say that Gentoo is very good, but it is hard to install! I allways wanted to install gentoo but I could not because its difficults! But with Funtoo I could!
I am very happy, it is fast, optimizable and have every thing you need!

Thank you all people that had it possible!

Cheers!

How is it hard, when you have the whole install documented here?

Moved from Documentation, Tips & Tricks to Gentoo Chat. Definitely not about documentation but peripherally about Gentoo so it fits better here.

Installing gentoo is much more involved than any other distro I've used, and some parts of the install can be confusing. Especially the kernel configuration if you haven't done that before. I personally prefer to use genkernel to set up a kernel that is known to work during the install and after I get the system running and configured take my time in creating an optimized kernel for my system.

If I'm not mistaken, the install guide is included on the livecd, read it carefully and take your time as you go through everything. If something doesn't make sense, read it again until it does. Eventually you'll get it.

I still remember my first gentoo install from stage1 8 or 9 years ago. The whole thing must have taken almost two days between compiling everything and reading through the documentation as I went along, but I got it and felt I learned a lot about my system and was very satisfied by the result. I've done several more installs over the years and just recently came back to gentoo after about a year or so long hiatus. Even now I still had to take my time and skim through the documentation, but it was nowhere near as confusing as my first time. Just stick to it and you'll be up and running in no time!

If that doesn't work, there are loads of helpful people on the forums and irc who can help you get things going :D

Calculate linux is another good alternative for servers and home users - http://www.calculate-linux.ru/main/en/about . Just install it on your machine and you'll recieve a pure Gentoo installation in a few minutes.
