| I am getting intermittent system hangs / freezes and segmentation faults while running the Installation DVD for AMD64. Could this be fault media. The only way to recover is a hard reboot. Any thoughts what could be wrong ? |

could be GPU drivers, CPU overheating or BAD ram. Perhaps you should boot with 'nox' to rule out the GPU drivers. |

| I don't recommend to install the Gentoo from livedvds. Traditional tarballs are the best. |

You got it all wrong, he is not trying to install from livedvd and there is NO installer on the livedvd and only a few guides on how to copy livedvd contents to a hard drive. The livedvd is perfect for installation for those that wish to have a full featured gui environment while Gentoo compiles for you. |

But if so then may user lostinspace2011 use another distro as the LiveDVD for the Gentoo installation? |
