PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2011 11:11 pm    Post subject: Patch for scangearmp Reply with quote

I've tried to fix scangearmp-1.70. Now it compiles and runs, but it still can not save to PNG (saving to PDF and PNM does work, though). The patch is here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130645

I've tested it with Canon PIXMA MG5250.

Quote from png.h:
Code:

/* The complete definition of png_struct has, as of libpng-1.5.0,
 * been moved into a separate header file that is not accessible to
 * applications.  Read libpng-manual.txt or libpng.3 for more info.
 */

I think this is the cause of the error. I believe this error must be trivial to fix, but I don't really know C :(

It seems your printer is supported with gutenprint. Have you tried it? Googling shows success stories about MP830 and gutenprint.

Well figured out png functionality; don't comment out your FileControlWriteFile ; instead use below and you should be able to scan to png now :). Clean compile ; I'm on my Sabayon install, so I can't test fully right now as I have trouble getting the scanner to actually detect :P.

**EDIT**

Sweeeet. Just got it to work and tested :D :D :D FINALLY! (>")> <(">) <( " )> (^"^). A month long battle over :P

Fix for
scanfile.c (and rember your #define Z_BEST_SPEED 1 below your includes on scanfile.c)
Code:

/********************************************************************************************/
/*                     Portable Network Graphics File Format                     */
/********************************************************************************************/

void write_data_for_png( png_structp png_ptr, png_bytep data, png_size_t length )
{
   //FileControlWriteFile( *( (int *)png_ptr->io_ptr ), (CNMSLPSTR)data, length );
   FileControlWriteFile( *( (int *)png_get_io_ptr(png_ptr) ), (CNMSLPSTR)data, length );

   return;
}

Good. I will try that soon.

However, i think that one should not add #define Z_BEST_SPEED 1. Z_BEST_SPEED is defined in zlib.h. I think scangearmp should include zlib.j.

Recently upgraded kernel from 2.6.39 to 3.0.6 and now 3.1.10
Pixma 5250 was printing under 2.6.39 (did a lot of copying files the source code directories, but did get it working well)
Now it does not work.
I have downloaded the recent ebuild for cnijfilter-3.40 referred to in this thread. Compile fails every time with incompatible libraries.
At my wit's end here.

The final errors in the build refer to each of the *374 libraries and ld post(they are the ones for the MG5250 printer) to say that they are incompatible. I will try to post the exact error when I get home (at work now). It looks like the linker is trying to link the x86 libraries whereas the rest of the compile is using x86_64. I have ensured both sets of libraries are in both the real system AND the overlay.

This could be due to cnijfilter being incompatible with newer libpng. Check out this bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130645

There are some patches for cnijfilter-2.60, maybe you can tweak them for 2.70.

I've added my ebuild for cnijfilter-2.70 with a patch that supports libpng-1.5 to the bugzilla thread for cnijfilter.

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130645

This may fix the error you were receiving when building cnijfilter.

I gave up on cnijfilter altogether. Currently the printer is on the network running the lpd protocol and using the gutenprint driver I somehow got it working. It's talking to my main machine without any wires where at first that was impossible. I don't know what changed but it's working at last.

Cnijfilter is one big mess which I will not be using any time soon again. Weird though, on my Ubuntu netbook it works without trouble.

I'm trying to get cnijfilter-2.70 to work, but I'm having a constant error , regardless of which version of ebuild I use.

This is the error I get:

Code:
 * Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!  Value for $EPATCH_SOURCE is:
 *
 *   /usr/portage/net-print/cnijfilter/files/cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.patch
 *   ( cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.patch )

 * ERROR: net-print/cnijfilter-2.70 failed (unpack phase):
 *   Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!
 *
 * Call stack:
 *     ebuild.sh, line   85:  Called src_unpack
 *   environment, line 2367:  Called epatch '/usr/portage/net-print/cnijfilter/files/cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.patch'
 *   environment, line  839:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *                   die "Cannot find \$EPATCH_SOURCE!";
 *

There is no such patch file in the tree, and I have absolutely no idea where it's supposed to come from.

Anyone have an idea?

The patch you're looking for is buried in the bug report referenced above, but I see it's not at all obvious.

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130645

Look for the attachment labeled: patch for cnijfilter-2.70-r2.ebuild

Click through on the patch, and then right-click to save, and only then will you see the proper patch name: "cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.patch"

Here's a direct link to the patch:

https://130645.bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=241641

Let me know if you have trouble locating it. It's not really clear.

Found it, grabbed it, emerge started okay. Many thanks.

Someone really should go through that bug and remove a lot of those ebuilds, because there's a lot of overlap and a lot that are broken (will not work with current portage tree). I had to manually modify the ebuilds I tried, to match the new path for ghostscript, and the new libxml.

Update:
Emerge failed with the following error:

Code:
 * ERROR: net-print/cnijfilter-2.70 failed (compile phase):
 *   Couldn't make ip4300/printui
 *
 * Call stack:
 *     ebuild.sh, line   85:  Called src_compile
 *   environment, line 2340:  Called src_compile_pr
 *   environment, line 2357:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *           make || die "Couldn't make ${_pr}/printui";
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of 'emerge --info =net-print/cnijfilter-2.70',
 * the complete build log and the output of 'emerge -pqv =net-print/cnijfilter-2.70'.
 * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/net-print/cnijfilter-2.70/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/net-print/cnijfilter-2.70/temp/environment'.
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/net-print/cnijfilter-2.70/work/cnijfilter-2.70'

/usr/portage/distfiles includes the .rpm for the ip4300 (my printer) so it's not a missing source error.

Any ideas?

You need to post the full error, not just the bottom.

Here's the complete build.log from Portage. Hopefully the cause of the error is in there.

From what I've found, it seems to have something to do with libxml, which I recall being a cause of problems beforehand. The ebuild was looking for libxml-1.8 - which portage doesn't have in its tree anymore - so I had to edit the ebuild to look for libxml2 instead.

Is there some way to get around this whole libxml complication?

Maybe someone with a better set of eyes can spot the error, but I think the actual part of the build log that contains the error got truncated.

I know pastebin is frowned upon, but you may need to use something like that to get the whole build log where we can look at it.

And maybe include the ebuild as it is currently constructed in your local portage directory.
