Switch audio output

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a way to change the audio output when watching movies in mplayer or vlc. Usually, I watch movies on my TV via HDMI. Sometimes when I leave the room, I would like to listen on my wireless headphones, which are attached to the computer's sound card. So I need a method to switch from the soundcards HDMI-out to standard line-out. Is that possible?

with pulseaudio you can use 1 or all soundcards with 1 soundsource and select between them
