Since compiz seems to be kind of dying I have been looking around for some other composite manager, I found compton: https://github.com/chjj/compton

From the README:
Quote:
Compton is a compositor for X, and a fork of xcompmgr-dana.

I was frustrated by the low amount of standalone lightweight compositors. Compton was forked from Dana Jansens' fork of xcompmgr and refactored. I fixed whatever bug I found, and added features I wanted. Things seem stable, but don't quote me on it. I will most likely be actively working on this until I get the features I want. This is also a learning experience for me. That is, I'm partially doing this out of a desire to learn Xlib.

Has anyone tested it on gentoo?

Cheers,
//D

Seems like some guys want to send unix back to the "it has to be ugly"-console, so that apple and microsoft can shine brighter even if they are...

Err, what? Compton is a compositing manager in it's core sense. It does composition. Not everyone needs/wants wobbly windows.

I am writing about the issue that composite/beryl get's rid of gentoo.

I would like to get out the bible from portage - I tried it and I got sick of it, but instead the beauty of 3d-desktops is taken away.

Also biblesword forces evil behaviour and sensless violence.

Gentoo is a volunteer-driven project. If you're still complaining and not going to volunteer, then you're a leech.

What are you talking about??

I understand the words. But their concatenation makes no sense whatsoever.

The Original Poster had asked a legitimate question. If you have nothing helpful to post, then please don't post anything.

Consider this a warning.

Compton has been added to the tree by Samuli Suominen (ebuild created by Julian Ospald).
It seems to be working great! Certainly a drop-in replacement for xcompmgr.

When i'm using compton, everthing seems to work fine except my notifications. Why?

I'm using gentoo, lxde, openbox and compton. After starting compton, no notification pops up, no error message... any ideas?

compton is started with normal settings (compton -c -b -e 0.8 -i 0.7). It doesn't matter which settings i'll set in compton. :-/
