I have a new installation of gentoo and am in the process of setting up kde. When I emerge world (with the options from guide), it gets to emerging parted and just hangs. There's no error, it just gets stuck before even fetching the file. I have tried using --exclude parted but that comes up with packages masked with exclude.
Any idea what could be causing this? |

First: What version of portage do you have installed? Post the info of emerge --info
Second: Without any output of what is/was happening at the time of the freeze, it is only guesswork on our part.
Third: It is possible to interrupt portage and find out whit it is suppose to be doing if that is needed. But we need the first 2 items above to determine if that is necessary.

Basic settings look ok, It may be possible that the ebuild or an eclass is hanging internally. Try running "emerge --debug -v parted". This will produce a lot of output, but may reveal where/what is causing the hang for you. You could also use "pstree" or "ps axF" from another terminal. That could show what is hanging in the emerge process, as it is not likely to be emerge itself.

| This ended up being something to do with an error with the hwclock. Once this was fixed, emerge worked fine. |
