|
|
I think I updated xorg-server-1.11, xorg-drivers-1.11, and xf86-video-intel-2.17 (amd64-stable) recently and now mythtv (mythfrontend) seems to cause the video driver to hang. Anyone seen this happen?
Trying to back off to xf86-video-intel-2.15 didn't help...trying an older xorg-server now...
Mythtv is using a cx23885 card (hauppauge hvr-1250 model 1196). Intel G965 onboard video. _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

What version of MythTV. Intel N10 Integrated Graphics Controller, intel 2.17.0-r3, mythtv 0.24.1 works. Backend is in a different box. _________________ Please learn how to denote units correctly! |

Backend on same machine of course...
media-tv/mythtv-0.23.1_p27077 ... not sure if this in itself was an update or not.
Trying an -e emerge to see if it cleans anything up. Just very weird that an update seemed to have broke things... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

Allright, will try to use the ebuild for 0.24.1... Rebuilding 0.23 didn't help, might be time to "unstable" it.
[Update]
Nope, still broken but by another mechanism.
Now I get this blue screen every time I try to watch a recording or watch live tv. Audio appears to work.
It looks like the backend is working. It's recording stuff just fine -- I can play back the recorded files using mplayer, but mplayer I have to hardcode the output driver -vo. Looks like the default output channel x11/xv is broken perhaps, probably same problem with mythfrontend?
hmm... trying an -e world now...
[Update 2]
The -e world made it a bit better, I can watch TV once more, but mythtv-0.24.1 is pretty unstable for me... crashes and/or hangs for a few seconds frequently, sometimes does not update the screen when it should, etc....
No wonder why it's ~ ... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

It looks like there's a problem with the graphics subsystem.
The DRM or something with the graphics routines is causing my G965 to crash. After it crashes, 3D no longer works... It eventually can take down the whole system (!) ... not sure if it's a hardware or software issue but seems multiple people are seeing the issue by a cursory Google search.
And nice... I forgot to rc-update add syslog-ng default... at least it's pretty easy to crash it again... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

No, I'm not using SNA (thought that was Sandybridge stuff which I clearly don't have...) Might well try it, seems like it says that it has value to older chipsets and not just core i7... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

Interesting... Guess I wasn't running into the issue or I need to back up a version... Grr. _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

New data.... Looks like playback seems ok but X11/MythTV will crash, dumping back to the login screen (using Gnome GDM) when playing back (and downconverting) a 1080p stream to 720p. _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

Are you running the version from portage or from MythTV's overlay? _________________ “And even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.”– Hillary Clinton, Jan. 21, 2010 |

Portage. I would hope it would be somewhat stable...
May need to try some other overlay.... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

I think I found the smoking gun after some random readings.
Apparently mythtv uses the CPU to decode SD streams, and xvmc for HD streams? Does this sound familiar?
When xvmc is run, it will then crash the X server? I had xvmc use flag turned on for mythtv, this might have been the reason why it crashes.
Anyone have xvmc running with MythTV+Intel graphics? I disabled xvmc as a workaround and it uses quite a bit more CPU to playback than to record... |

Unfortunately I don't think vaapi is an option for 0.24... or is it?
Well one would think that a Core2 Duo E6700 should be fast enough... it is for the most part. _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

I think there's an option to choose which backend to use for which resolution. (At least that's my understanding of it)
It's located in Setup → TV Settings → Playback _________________ “And even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.”– Hillary Clinton, Jan. 21, 2010 |

We'll see... Then hopefully I don't need to use a "huge" Core2Duo for the frontend and offload some to the chipset graphics.
Then again, a Core2Duo isn't the fastest processor out there anymore... it is the third fastest (of the zillions of computers I have) in my house currently, I really should use one of the crappier machines to play video... Though it is in a half height microatx case that fits well underneath the TV... _________________ Core-i7-2700K@4.1GHz/8GB RAM/180GB SSD/Intel HD3000 graphics

I thought 0.25 was out already - just not for Gentoo yet.
Are you running MythTV out of regular portage, or the upstream ebuilds?
Any idea when mythtv-0.25 will make it to the upstream ebuilds?
This weekend I brought my home machines to a newer release of mythtv-0.24.2, so apparently that's still getting updates.
I'm also having some minor problems with the new mythweb and it's php dependencies, preventing me from running "emerge --depclean", but that's a separate topic. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |

0.25 has been around, yes, as a beta. 0.25 as a version recommended to the end user is not out yet.
I'm currently building by hand. I know, everyone says 'boo' now, I should use an ebuild and if there is none I like I should write my own. Using prefix /usr/local makes it manageable enough for me right now. _________________ Please learn how to denote units correctly! |

There are also upstream ebuilds for MythTV - I got instructions somewhere here on the forums on how to install it, because it's not a regular overlay. But from the upstream ebuilds, mythtv-0.25_rc20120329 is available. I'm currently running mythtv-0.24.2_p20120315 from the upstream ebuilds. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |
