Cannot access virtual terminals using ALT+F2 or F<x>

Hello,

When I boot from Gentoo LiveDVD 11.2 I can't get to the additional virtual terminals using ALT + F<X> combination. I only get to see horizontal cursor blinking like it would was inviting me to type in something but whatever I type it just doesn't show itself. Any ideas?

it is <crtl>+<alt>+<Fx> from the gui to the virtual consoles. <alt>+<Fx> only works from within virtual consoles.

I'm not using GUI. See for yourself I made some pictures.

What I see after loading is complete
What I see after pressing either ALT+F2 or CTRL+ALT+F2
Notice upper left corner small horizontal line I've mentioned.

I have started it without framebuffer and it helped.
