Does anyone know if I can watch full screen tv using xawtv or some other tv program? im running xfree 4.2.0. Using Xine to watch a mpg, I can watch it full screen. But using xawtv there is always a black background around a small window. |

you have to add a modline to your XF86Config going confirm with your tv-resolution. when switching to fullscreen xawtv switches to that modeline itself!

theres a setting in xawtv which concerns this. easy to find. You just have to switch it from 'overlay' to 'grab' display. |

I would not use "grab display" .. it's terribly cpu-consuming, and though you may have 2+GHz there is really no need to slay a bad configuration with good hardware

in my xfee 4.2.0 config i have for a 24dpi "mode 1280x1024 mode mode"
where mode and mode are some modes i found on the web for NTSC. it does not switch. has the black around it.
I would give you the exact config, but im not at my linux computer now. |

i just was looking on the kwintv website and it says something about enabling the v4l in xfree and making sure the module for your card is loaded in the kernel.
in xfee load the v4l in modules
Load "v4l"
not sure what kernel module. im running a bttv and i have the bttv module loaded. can anyone expand on this? like I said im not at my linux box now. |

To get my tv card to work I added these lines to module.autoload:
My card needs to have the tuner specified...you may be able to get away with just bttv.
You need to make sure you compile quite a few modules...With lsmod, these are the modules that are related to bttv:
Code: |
tvaudio 11232 0 (autoclean) (unused)
bttv 68064 1
i2c-algo-bit 7180 1 [bttv]
videodev 5856 3 [bttv]
tuner 8388 1
i2c-core 13056 0 [tvaudio bttv i2c-algo-bit tuner]
|
You need to have the load v4l command in your XF86Config, but I don't think it's a kernel modules (anyone else know?).
Also getting fullscreen with xawtv in KDE requires me to set it to "Always on Top", otherwise I get the panel on top of xawtv. |
