|
|
Hi
glc is an ALSA & OpenGL capture tool for Linux. It consists of a generic video
capture, playback and processing library and a set of tools built around that
library. glc should be able to capture any application that uses ALSA for sound
and OpenGL for drawing. It is similar like yukon.
There was a Gentoo overlay for glc but this is now outdated, as the website
where the source tar.bz2 should be downloaded is not available anymore. Also
this overlay would not bring in the dependent packages.
This versions use the git sources from github. They compiled fine on my
machine.
Homepage: https://github.com/nullkey/glc/wiki
I guess this would be very useful for gamers, because it is a tool like FRAPS
where many game videos are recorded.
You can get the ebuilds here:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390401
There are in a zip file!
Thanks. please comment

The project seems to have been dead for 6 months. Does it do anything better than captury, recordmydesktop or xvidcap? |

Well the project is maybe dead but the tool works so its not tat bad..... I just recorded a NWN movie with it....
The last time i tried recordmydesktop or xvidcap where not able to capture full screen OpenGL games like Enemy Territory Quake wars.... This tool is directed at Games and not just windows you wanna capture.
I dont know about captury but the homepage is dead.... I did not try captury yet. But it seems the dev also is doing other things now.
How well does captury work ? Does it have more/other features than glc?
Is there a overlay for captury?

Captury does seem to be gone now. The only reason I ask is all of these tools have some arbitrary limitation, or serious performance problems.
I use ffmpeg, since it works on any window or fullscreen, and doesn't impact performance while it's running. The only downside is that I sometimes forget I turned it on and end up with 50GB week-long video files. |

Hi
I did not recognise a that much performance hit. I would guess maybe 15-20 % but thats not that much i guess.
Well glc does all to says it would record videos of opengl games. nor more not less.. Its basicly like the old fraps with all these fancy "features".
How do you do it with ffmpeg? _________________ Thank you for your help.

There's a ffmpeg script here. I have that binded to a keyboard hotkey, and another one for "killall ffmpeg", so I can start/stop it without having to alt+tab from the game. |

It is a shame that glc has not been worked upon for a time now. I wonder what happened...
Used it for quite a long time and it does work nicely still; surely worth a try. I myself will definitely have to look into that ffmpeg script, thanks
Looks interesting.

Unfortunately the overlay's homepage http://nullkey.ath.cx/glc/overlays.xml is dead...
And doing Code: | layman -f -a glc -o 'https://github.com/nullkey/glc-overlay/blob/master/overlays.xml' |
produces this:
Code: | * Failed to update the overlay list from: https://github.com/nullkey/glc-overlay/blob/master/overlays.xml
* Error was:
* Failed to parse the overlays list fetched from https://github.com/nullkey/glc-overlay/blob/master/overlays.xml
* This means that the downloaded file is somehow corrupt or there was a problem with the webserver. Check the content of the file. Error was:
* mismatched tag: line 44, column 4
* Overlay "glc" does not exist. |

Do you mean it's better in performance than glc?
Btw, I can't understand how the ffmpeg script works... Do you just make it into an .sh file and run it? |
