Tapatalk is a dedicated app for smart phones that allows people to read posts from a forum and to post into them without using the mobile browser (which, at least in the case of blackberry, is wonky). The plugin for phpbb is free, but it costs if you want to rebrand the forum interface to have gentoo logos and stuff. There is also a cost for the smartphone client...so I think that's their moneymaker.

If forums.gentoo.org gets this, it would certainly be helpful for me because I am often away from my computer but I always have my phone with me. I suspect that there are others who could benefit from this service.

Not before 2020, probably.

There are much more important things to attend, like the migration to phpbb3, which needs to be attended as well and people has been asking for that since 2007 or so. You are probably out of luck.
