Hello to all,

I'm having a weird and annoying problem when playing any video(flash) on you-tube, it seems to happen only when i,m on you-tube.
When the video is playing, and i switch to a different tab to surf, i can see the video through all of the black color of my screen, i hope i,m explaining this the right way ( excuses for my rusty English ), so i can see the video playing through the black text or anything that is black on the website or my Wallpaper, i can't show this because grabbing the screen does not show anything, it only happens when i,m playing a video on you-tube.
I have tested other video sites, and videos on the hard drive.
If i minimize the browser window, and go the my desktop (gnome), and if my wallpaper has any black in it , i can still see the video playing, true every black color on the wallpaper.
When starting Firefox, there is always a rectangle in the left above corner that gets painted with a delay.
I, m not sure if its a adobe flash player problem or my Nvidia GTS 250 video card or my LED LCD screen problem.
Any help is much appreciated

Here are some settings:
My /etc/adobe/mms.cfg only two uncommented:

Code:

# trusted
#  0 = Not Allowed, 1 = Allowed (default)

# uses for the storage of common Flash components

I have the same problem on an Ubuntu system. Indeed it has to do with the nvidia driver and adobe flash. One more problem with these two proprietary binary only pieces of software. Luckily there is an easy workaround to get rid of the “ghost“ picture: just switch to any virtual console (i.e. press alt-F1) and then switch back to X11 by alt-F7.

I got rid of this by switching to the open source driver nouveau on my gentoo system. Depending on your needs tbis might be an option for you as well.

Thanks for your reply Ghutz,
That did get rid of the ghost picture, but haven't tested it yet after a reboot, but i,m guessing it will be back to haunt me :lol:

I'm not very familiar with the nouveau driver, don`t know if it can handle my card, i have always had proprietary drivers installed, on Arch , never had any ghost problems with it, i recently removed arch and installed Ubuntu just to get the xorg settings, (why because the same settings that worked on arch did not work on gentoo, so im missing something somewhere ) to my surprise there isn't a xorg.conf file one on ubuntu, or i may have overlooked it, issuing a find command came up with nothing, it seems that on ubuntu everything is detected automatically.But that,s the thing with precompiled binaries,every thing is cooked into them, with gentoo you decide what to eat, but ill give nouveau a try, thanks for your help.

I am having the same problems and Flash is getting worse by the day. When I play a video on YouTube, it now flickers strangely. I had to start blocking flash on all sites, it is terrible...

Hello to all again.
Found some info witch seems to fixed my problem.
I have edit the /etc/Adobe/mms.conf file added
Code:
OverrideGPUValidation = 0
to my config file.
Not sure if the above fixed it though :?:

Then i went on the flash (youtube) en left clicked to get the flash menu and disabled the
Code:
Enable hardware acceleration

Rebooted a few times and it seems that the problem was gone.

All the info was found on the following sites.

Bug info:https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/22878
Gentoo Adobe mms.conf info:http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/www-plugins/adobe-flash/files/mms.cfg
I don't think its a permanent solution, but it worked for me, getting rid of that annoying ghost :D

Someone ( with the same problem ) let me know if this really works so i can mark this post as closed.
This does produce slow and terrible slow shaky video with flash.

I can try it and I will let you know how it went but it is just a workaround and not a solution... I am afraid that Adobe will not solve it, since they have not been able to create a stable and functional flash plugin for years.

Lack of interest maybe, isn't there any other open source plungin we could use ?, i hope they do fix it.

I have tried installing the latest "beta" Adobe Flash plugin for 64bit Linux. The flickering and other artifacts are gone but unfortunately, there is absolutely no vdpau acceleration (playing fullscreen video through a plugin is really slow).

I`m running 32 bit version, wil that work, i,m guessing not.
Hmmm i read somewhere that the 32 bit version,was the best way to go,seems that they fixed the 64bit version.

Unfortunately, this problem seems to have popped up again on my system with up-to-date ~amd64.
Disabling HW acceleration in Flash, as suggested above, fixes it though.

I was having the same problem, but I haven't seen it since recompiling both my nVidia driver, Flash and Firefox. Unfortunately, I can't remember if any of them updated other than the nVidia driver or if it was just the recompile that did it.

Unfortunately, my new problem with Flash on Youtube is, I think, worse -- the red channel does not appear to be playing consistently, but ONLY when playing the video. The preview pop-up when you have the mouse over the progress bar are rendered with the correct colour. :(

[edit] ... and the third link in my Google search (which gave me this thread as the top result :roll: ) was this one, which recommends either adding

Code:
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1

or

Code:
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1
OverrideGPUValidation=true

In /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

To fix the (apparently) swapped red and blue channels. Now to see if it works.

[edit 2] After restarting Firefox, the first one does indeed fix the Red/Blue problem.
