Don't know if this is the right sub forum so please feel free to move it to the right one.
When I press alt-ctrl-Fn1 the typical initial console won't show up. What I get to see is the normal view I get when I press alt-ctrl-Fn2 - Fn6 a simple console login.
I kind of miss the verbose messages. |

| New versions of sys-apps/util-linux changed the default behavior of agetty so that it clears the screen. This makes tty1 look the same as tty2-tty6. Is this what you mean by "the typical initial console won't show up"? |

| Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Thanks for pointing this out. Is there any way to get the old behaviour back? |

| It seems that you could edit /etc/inittab adding a proper option to agetty invocations. |

Add --noclear just after agetty in the first invocation. It's not the first line in the file, I'm on Windows right now, it would help if you paste your inittab here.
Find something like this:
| Code: | | c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux |
And put --noclear like this:
| Code: | | c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty --noclear 38400 tty1 linux |
|

| Thanks, that worked fine. Can read the error messages again if there are any. |

It is a good idea to read elog messages after world updates.
and:
shows the messages, most recent first. I remember this was in the messages for the last init update.
I'm not sure if this requires additional setup in make.conf, regarding elog classes and actions. |
