Is there any way for me to install 32bit Firefox 5 on Gentoo Linux that is 64 bit. I have to do this, as Adobe Reader plug-in is terrible unstable with the wapper program. I often view pdf files on the internet (old newspapers) and just one use of the Adobe Reader plug-in makes it crash. I find this quite annoying

I rather do not want to go back to 32bit Gentoo Linux.

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Do you really need Adobe Reader ? Thee are so much free and stable PDF viewers.
I use epdfview and am very happy. It is not embedded into Firefox but works really well.

I needed the firefox plug-in. I do not use Adobe Reader that much in it self, as I do like you when it comes to pdf files. But I need to be able to read the pdf documents on this web page. They are all embedded into the web page and not available for download.

They may not be available for download, but you can download them. go to the page you want, view the page source, search for pdf#, copy link (up to the hash mark), open new tab, paste link. Firefox will either open it up on the screen or prompt you to download it, depending on your setup.

I just tried it. pdf opened up fine after I downloaded it.

Yes, this is more work than viewing it embedded onto the web page, but it is doable.

Hope this helps,

PS: yes, I was bored and decided to see if it was possible.

edit: it opened fine, but the downloaded document appears to be one page. I am not sure how many pages the original document contains, I may have just downloaded one page of many or the full document. Just wanted to clarify since I realized that I made one large assumption that could be wrong.

I use KDE applications, so I have www-plugins/kpartsplugin that embeds Okular into Firefox.

Here's a screenshot of what your page looks like for me: http://ompldr.org/vOXZqYw

(I'd be surprised if there wasn't something similar for other platforms)
