Sorry folks, I did not read this thread since it is far too long, but believe me the forum search still sucks... | What did you expect, this is Gentoo you know. Move on. |

When I need to do a search on the forums I usually start with the forum search. If that brings up nothing I try searching on google with "emerge gnome fails site:forums.gentoo.org" _________________ Q6600@3.45Ghz

Actually the forum search brings complete irrelevant things. I think Gentoo should use Google for it's searches. _________________ Buy from companies supporting opensource -- IBM, Dell, HP, Hitachi, Google etc...

See here for why that's not an option. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Maybe you should start using something like Recoll. _________________ Buy from companies supporting opensource -- IBM, Dell, HP, Hitachi, Google etc...

Recoll itself is of little use here but when (if?) we move to phpBB3 there are various options for performing full text searches that we will explore. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

I don't know if anything can be done about it, but the search functionality really blows. It doesn't find what it ought to find. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

Indeed -- use Google with "site:forums.gentoo.org" .
I'm sure something can be done about it, just as something can be done about the GLSAs, newsletter, official handbook, and wiki. _________________ Personal overlay | Simple backup scheme |
