display rotation

Something else I have never done before that just seems like a foreign language.

In KDE / System Settings / General / Display / Size & Orientation, the Orientation option has only "No Rotation" available (no other options). I have also tried putting:

Code: Select all

Option "Rotate" "CCW"
in xorg.conf (which had no effect).

Does anybody know how to get this to work?

Got xrandr installed? What drivers do you use?

Do you have 'Option "RandRRotation" "on"' in 'Section "Device"' of your xorg.conf? IIRC it doesn't work without it.

Have you tried using the nvidia-provided utility for changing resolutions and the like?

Nvidia blobs do not work well with xrandr, so these things can be a pain in the ass. If 3d is not really important to you, you could try nouveau.

Maybe I have the same problem. I am using the nvidia-drivers.
Since xorg-server-1.9.4 I am not able to rotate the screen (with the nvidia-settings tool). My workaround was to stick to xorg-server-1.9.2.

I was so tired of the nvidia-drivers that I never investigated the problem deeper or filed a bug report.
(I planed since weeks to switch to nouveau, today I did)

Btw. I was using nvidia-drivers-270.41.06

There also seems to be a problem with xorg-server 1.9. See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=160690
I have applied the mentioned patch to my installation of xorg-server 1.9.5 and

Code: Select all

xrandr -o left
works again.

Thanks.

I am now using xorg-server 1.9.5 and the patch you mentioned solved the problem also for me.

(I failed switching to the nouveau driver. In my office I connect my Laptop to two rotated displays. But if I do, the mouse pointer in kwin is vanished. Maybe there is also a fix for this, but for the moment I am going to stick the the nvidia-drivers).

I just updated to x11-base/xorg-server-1.10.2

While using TwinView with two Displays, I was not able to rotate the screen.
I received the following error message

Code: Select all

$ xrandr -o left
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig)
  Value in failed request: 0x780
Serial number of failed request: 14
Current serial number in output stream: 14
After applying the patch you mentioned everything worked fine again. :D

I got an email three days ago, that this bug has been resolved in version 1.10.3. So this was the last version you had to patch.

Hello,

With the patch screen rotation with xrandr and nvidia-settings work. :-)
However I would like to use the tray-based krandrtray to rotate the screen. It offers 0/90/180/270° options for rotation but they do not work (just with no message even when started on a console, screen stays as it is).
Is there any solution for this?
