I've mentioned this to people on an individual basis but maybe it should go here.

Since I started on the forum, I have had issues with setting up an e-mail system. On my first server I used Qmail/Courier-IMAP and struggled to get it right. Recently, I had help getting a new setup on the other server and moving away from Qmail.

It would probably be helpful if there was separate section just for Email system setup and questions, since it needs specialized instructions and there are multiple ways to set it up. There are key components that have to be done and a lot of electives. This was the problem I saw, what is a necessity and what were optional.

To install, for example, Gallery. Emerge gallery and you're done (no need to have its own area, waste of time) but an email setup is multiple products that must be integrated together. One piece not in sync and your screwed.

Wouldn't it make sense to give it its own area?

Maybe this is what you're looking for.

audiodef, I was looking at the future of moving your thread and mine to an area central to E-mail specific help.

Well, you could post to that threat and see what cach0rr0 (the moderator who wrote the postfix/cyrus guide) thinks of it. It sounds like a good idea to me.

Actually, if you're thinking of a main forum topic, I don't see it happening. The main forum topics are general, and email server setup is a very specific (if broad) topic.

The way these things are handled is by having a thread for specific topics, such as the one I started. When such threads become popular and reach a certain size, they are closed and a new one with the same name and a "Part II" suffix is created.

This pretty much sums it up. Generally e-mail setup questions should go to Networking & Security.
