Hello Gentoo people!

Well, it is a year passing by since I am using Gentoo OS.
Although it took me a while to install it,
I am taking my join date on this forum
to be the beginning of the rest of my life.

So, since it has been a year, all you
(unlucky geeks that haven't been born on February 29th)
had a birthday and are a year older.
So happy birthday to you all, and happy new year!!!
(Ladies born on Feb 29th give me a call: 555-STUD)

I would like to take this opportunity
to THANK YOU ALL for helping sincerely yours dumb newbie.
(no, there will be no naming, and no raise in salary either, kheh)

The fact is, that I am still a newbie,
but my learning curve in past year was enormous.

There are still volumes that I am not familiar with,
so keep an eye for my next dumb post,
but stuff that I learned is priceless!!!

Although I did not contribute much, close to nothing,
I am proud as rooster on pile of manure to say that I did help (2nd post):
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-868033-highlight-.html

To end, I would like to state the fact,
that this is the greatest community I have ever came across.
Documentation and support is spectacular!

This is just not enough sugar,
so now it is time to cut the cake:
Code:
# emerge cake
calculating dependences:
all gentoo users
!!!emerge failed: not enough space!!!

oh well, hold that thought,
pour some sugar on it,
dunk it in cream
and top it with cherry...

Now, that is a sweet nice looking thought!

Enjoy everyone!

(have emergency stand by,
this is going to be a wild party,

I see rh1 and d2_racing over there are already stuffing
ram and some sort of star-track cpu in boxes
Randy Andy is calculating how to compile us all,
Mike Hunt gave me keys of his yacht, he says he's drinking tonight,
shkador - that balcan boy just don't know when to stop,
disi and Jaglover found stashed burbon,
bobspencer123 is recording everything, I don't think youtube can handle all this...
Telemin kicked dj out and took over,
dE_logics is throwing stuff out of the window (sin is a sin...)
John R. Graham came to fill remaining free space
krinn just crashed the party
Hu dol-sen DONAHUE Mousee Rexilion eccerr0r ssuominen cwr Spidey boerKrelis Satoshi patrikas gregool BradN Chewi crazymonito pingufunkybeat antonlacon ppurka MotivatedTea PanzerKanzler desultory phajdan.jr cach0rr0 few NeddySeagoon Etal Cyker Veldrin szmytson Jimini avx ...

is really everybody coming?
This is too much!
Time to pul the plug on this party...
What do you mean you can not?
Who is at the console, that finish/swedish looking guy in bathroom robe?
Kick him out and shut down the whole thing!
Wait! Who is that chunky gray-bearded guy who just came in?
Well, how am I now going to explain all this to him...

Damn those gentoo people...

I guess tomorrow will be a day off...)

HAPPY BIRTHS-DAY GENTOO

Today I celebrate two years of life of Gentoo on my machine!

I would like to take this opportunity,
to thank you all who are helping noobs like me.
Without you all, there would NOT be a gentoo on my machine!

I just need OS, a free one,
so last THANK YOU,
until the next year that is.

What can I say, I will probably steal your time with each next line,
but I guess I have to express thought or two...

This year passed much faster, first thing that comes to mind.
I am able to update almost weekly, I read emerge output so no biggies there.

I can not make all apps to work, so I make nice with alternative ones.

The thing I discovered is, that I build my OS, and I made it (and still making/changing) in my own desire...
For instance, I choose cli to log in, ratpoison wm, and some suckless stuff, and I configured all my key-bindings,
so even for you, who understand what I am writing about, you would need to reconfigure *rc files, or learn mine key-bindings,
to start to use my laptop. Now imagine some of my friends sitting behind it, khehe, no go, hehe...
So this is nice, to have the opportunity to tune up OS to suit my needs.

technically, I guess I am running stable gentoo OS...

I try to keep an eye on unanswered posts, but,
my noob dumb answers were plain failure to help in some cases, khehe...

ok, I think I stole enough of your time,
last year I could not emerge cake for all gentoo users,
so this year I am compiling like this:
Code:
# emerge piece_of_cake
compiling...
done!
# piece_of_cake --give-to-each user

Happy birthday Gentoo!

wow three years ago I set aside a month to try gentoo.
and it looks like I am stuck with it, kheh heh heh...

The main thing here is that I do not know much about linux,
but I can find a file and paste in it whatever I have been told here,
so guys, big thanks!

So what has happened in last year?

I switched my 2 laptops for one pc box that I configured, bought and assembled,
first time in my life I assembled my pc, yeah! (so as you see that was a big deal).

installing gentoo on that box was a delight, took me 3 hours up to x!

also we got puppy, which is not a puppy any more.

oh and yes, we had most snow this winter than ever, and I hate snow...

ups and downs, as life should be..

Thank you for your time for reading this sentimental post,
and stay well until next year when we meet again
