Hi there,

yesterday I build mesa with nouveau, and today it's not available anymore.

# emerge -DNuva world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

I sent an email to the dev that did the masking to see if it was intentional or not.

If not, I'll unmask it again later. Sorry for the trouble! For now, add the following entry to /etc/portage/use.mask to unmask it manually: "-nouveau"

EDIT: This should be fixed, again, sorry for the trouble!

It still doesn't work :

[ebuild U ] x11-base/xorg-drivers-1.10 [1.9] INPUT_DEVICES="evdev joystick keyboard* mouse* -acecad -aiptek -elographics -fpit -penmount -synaptics -tslib (-virtualbox) (-vmmouse) -void -wacom" VIDEO_CARDS="(-apm) (-ark) (-ast) (-chips) (-cirrus) -dummy -epson -fbdev (-fglrx) (-geode) (-glint) (-i128) (-i740) (-impact) (-intel) -mach64 -mga (-neomagic) (-newport) (-nouveau) -nv* (-nvidia) (-omapfb) (-qxl) -r128 -radeon (-rendition) (-s3) (-s3virge) (-savage) (-siliconmotion) (-sis) -sisusb (-sunbw2) (-suncg14) (-suncg3) (-suncg6) (-sunffb) (-sunleo) (-suntcx) (-tdfx) (-tga) (-trident) (-tseng) -v4l (-vesa) (-via) (-virtualbox) (-vmware) (-voodoo)" 0 kB
[ebuild N ] x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.6.0 0 kB
[ebuild N ] x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse-1.7.0 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-libs/mesa-7.10.1 USE="classic gallium nptl -debug -gles -hardened (-llvm) -motif -pic (-selinux)" VIDEO_CARDS="(-intel) -mach64 -mga (-nouveau*) -r128 -radeon (-savage) (-sis) (-tdfx) (-via) (-vmware)" 0 kB
[ebuild U ] dev-libs/glib-2.28.5 [2.28.4] USE="fam static-libs xattr -debug -doc (-introspection) (-selinux) -test" 6,782 kB

I can't find the right syntax to enable nouveau in /etc/portage/use.mask

I found a way to workaround, but something seems strange.
Nouveau video card is unmasked when I add x11-base/xorg-drivers -video_cards_nouveau in /usr/portage/profiles/arch/powerpc/package.use.mask

BUT it doesn't work when I add it to /etc/portage/package.use.mask or /etc/portage/use.mask

Any idea ?

Tested nouveau on G5 PPC64, it works fine. I really don't understand why video_cards_nouveau is masked.
Can you also add x11-base/xorg-drivers -video_cards_nouveau and media-libs/mesa -video_cards_nouveau in /usr/portage/profiles/arch/powerpc/package.use.mask ?

Thanks a lot for you help !

Ah, I believe we haven't unmasked those yet because there is no stable version marked yet. I'll look into it, thanks for letting us know!

When you say 'works fine', what exactly do you mean? I recently tried installing nouveau on a G5, and while I get some display -- I get many artifacts, and it is *very* low quality video. I might be missing something though...

Works fine means display works smoothly, no artefacts. Only mesa behaviour is strange (glxgears is blank, but shows FPS).
My card is a Geforce FX5200. Maybe yours is different ?

For info I use ~ppc64 arch, with latest libdrm and nouveau. I dont use any xorg.conf file, Xorg automatic setup works.
Hope this helps.
