A flashback from 1998!
I have pulled a graphics from an old computer that wasn't in use anymore, and it's screen at 800x600. So I went ahead and enabled "voodoo" in VIDEO_CARDS only to find out that that has been masked... Does anyone know why? is that driver now no longer maintained?

xf86-video-voodoo is not masked...

post output of emerge error please.

Also, you will need 3dfx use flag in make.conf and re-compile X.
