winex hl.exe gives me:

winex hl
Wine ERROR: Couldn't set file attributes for existing file "/mnt/windows/Games/sierra/Half-Life/sierra.inf".
Check permissions or set VFAT "quiet" mount flag
Wine ERROR: Couldn't set file attributes for existing file "/mnt/windows/Games/sierra/Half-Life/valve/config.cfg".
Check permissions or set VFAT "quiet" mount flag
Your Open Sound System driver did not let us configure small enough sound fragments.
This may cause delays and other problems in audio playback with certain applications.

I can't say that I understand what "VFAT 'quiet' mount flag" means.

Any thoughts?

Any time you are seeing strange errors about reading files you should always check permissions. Make sure that your current user has permissions to your entire sierra folder (recursively.)

Hope that helps!

chown -R user sierra

And VFAT is the filesystem that windows 95/98/Me uses, linux refers to it as VFAT. The quiet flag is set in your /etc/fstab or in your mount command.

e.g.

mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/windows -t vfat quiet,noatime

I'm pretty sure the vfat errors are normal on a non-windows install of winex. if, however, you have a windows partition mounted and are getting this error, then ignore me.

I think the sound error is more important (but I don't know the answer).

Hope this helps,
