|
|
I've been dutifully following the Gentoo PPC installation instructions, but when I try to install the gentoo-sources, it tells me that all are masked (see below). Anyone know what I should do next?
thanks for any help,
Darrell
(chroot) livecd / # emerge gentoo-sources

* The FEATURES=digest setting can prevent corruption from being noticed.
* The `repoman manifest` command is the preferred way to generate
* manifests and it is capable of doing an entire repository or category at
* once.

Calculating dependencies... done!

Couple of options:
* unmask the gentoo source you want (easy to google, also try to google autounmask), wouldn't recommend 2.6.36-r2 though see http://packages.gentoo.org/category/sys-kernel
* get another kernel package sys-kernel/vanilla-sources has 2 stable releases it seems (look it up at the above link)
Also if you're daring enough you can put the following in /etc/make.conf:
Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~ppc64" |
This will unmask all the packages that were mask for ppc. I did the same but for amd64 and never had any troubles, but I might be lucky.
Masked packages are not perse bug driven, most of them are not well enough tested (not enough user who gave feedback at https://bugs.gentoo.org/) to be considered as "stable". Google it if you want to read more about it.

Thanks very much!
The last time I used gentoo was with a dec alpha, so the refresher hints are much appreciated...

I would be grateful if you could test any of:
- sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.36-r5
- sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.32-r24
- sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.36.2
- sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.32.27
These are candidates for stables.
Cheers,
