|
|
Trying out clementine for the first time and I compiled it with projectm support. Clementine itself seems to work fine, including when I open the projectm visualization from the tools menu. I can also fullscreen the visualization (it starts off windowed), but if I exit full screen mode the projectm window completely freezes and the whole system slows to a crawl. I tried upgrading projectm to the newest version in portage (a 2.0 derivative) but now it freezes when I simply enable visualizations. I ran it in a console and only see expected output:
| Code: |
virtual bool QxtGlobalShortcutBackend::DoRegister()
Error connecting to the DeviceKit-disks DBUS service
QColor::fromHsv: HSV parameters out of range

Because the rest of clementine works fine I believe that this is a visualization issue, but I also do not see this problem reported elsewhere in the internet. Could this be an installation/configuration issue or should I file a bug report? If so, with whom? _________________ He who laughs last, laughs hardest

How do I enable the visualizations ?
Just emerged the projectM from portage, restarted Clementine but as you can see from the screenshot, the visualizations is still showing grey in the tools of Clementine.. How about that?

Yeah and I know, portage is nagging about those config files.. I dont know what to do with them either.. Nothing? |

Well as usual, very confusing and annoying this is.
I ran the dispatch-conf and it gives this output

Sorry my bad english, too tired to search for grammar book.
I'm afraid of doing anything with my system anymore because it's has worked so flawlessy about for an year or so... I dont want to screw things up just pressing "yes" to those dispatch questions when I just cannot understand what the heck the computer is asking from me... |

uuuuhh so embarassed again...
I missed the "projectm" use flag.. lets try again.
Still dunno about those config files but maybe some day
Edit:
The visuals work perfectly. Perhaps couple of them doesnt work but there is still lots to choose from..
Fullscreen mode, medium settings and 25fps , Clementine takes about 17 - 20 % cpu on my Amd x2 5000+ cpu
Not too bad, could be better maybe, I dont know the CPU usage with these kind of things in Windows world for example. |

If you ppurka cannot help at all, please shut up. | Sorry, if you consider that as an insult. The output should be fairly transparent, if you ever used the diff program in the past 15 years. Now, the only thing left is to understand what those options at the bottom mean. Pressing h gives you a decent description of what is going on.
If going through all of that seems too difficult, then you should of course try etc-proposals.
Keeping config items not updated is a recipe for disaster. Especially when crucial packages such as baselayout get updated. In certain circumstances you might not be able to even boot into your system. _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II |

I dont know what to do with those config files and my system is working perfectly so I just keep them as they are.
Crappy system this config thing.
etc-propolsals, diff, dispatch
could you make for example 100 programs more, to f*** around with these config files?
Lets make things little more difficult and lets make some more variables and programs that all do the same thing, littlebit different than another.
Remember when you are making a new software for this, that you wont use none of the existing libraries, dont improve the existing softwares, just make new "better" ones and remember too make the online guides so goddam difficult for average person to understand, that I'll have to ask from the forums.
And in the forums, they answer to you "RTFM"
thanks. |

It is a diff file. In 15 years you could have learned to handle patches and diffs. There is nothing complicated about it and fact is pretty much everyone handles it. The manual is very clear. Telling people who try to help you to shut up is hell of an attitude as well.
If you want to actually learn instead of expecting magic answers, google is a good place to start. Keywords: diff, etc-update. This is all you need to know to handle those oh-so-intimidating config files. |

So you are a CLI specialist with 15+ years of experience which do not know about diff. Right. Don't blame the persons around you for your own fault. They are trying to help you, and they have absolutely no way to know what your experience is, sir. They don't even have the need to know what your experience is. Even more, they don't have, at all, the obligation to know what your degree os knowledge or experience is. They are just trying to help you in an uninterested way. They owe you nothing.
There's no dishonour in not understanding the output of this tool. So don't feel offended when another user describes what's evident: you know nothing about the diff command line tool, which is a broadly used tool, not just in linux, but about in every existing OS but Windows.
I speak as a moderator: consider yourself warned. This is not the first time I see you behave this way, in an unmannered and demanding way. From memory I remind you did the same thing in a thread about kde. We won't tolerate that kind of behaviour, all the moderators are watching you now. Errrm... That's the way Gentoo is. So stick to a preconfigured OS, like Fedora, and be done with it. Gentoo is about getting your hands dirty. You don't buy a puzzle and then complain that you have to put the pieces together, do you? Much less considering that the puzzle is for free this time.
Someone already warned you above: don't complain later when your OS breaks. These update and configuration procedures are perfectly described in the handbook. I am sure that such an experienced user as you surely are should be more than capable to handle a handbook.

I never had used this "diff" command in my life. I'm no "guru" sorry about that.
would it be impossible to make some simplier solution for this and just don't ban every people who gets frustrated of confusing different programs and solutions?
Maybe something like:
bash# clear-configs
"Is your Firefox browser working propeprly? Yes/No" -> Yes -> System makes the proper changes.
That would be more human and logical way to deal with this, at least to me. |

would it be impossible to make some simplier solution for this and just don't ban every people who gets frustrated of confusing different programs and solutions?
Maybe something like:
bash# clear-configs
|
Think about it a moment: if it was that simple then emerge itself would just wipe old configs, put the new ones in place, and be done with it. Then we wouldn't be talking about etc-update at all.
If it's done this way it is because, since you modified the files manually, the updates need human supervision. New options are added on each new version, some others change, some others go away, and the old files -maybe- have been modified by you, so you are the one that will need to review them and do the thing.
You could argue that diff is not the right way to display the info, you could argue that etc-update is not the best tool and a lot of people around here would even agree with you about that. But that's why we have options, like dispatch-conf and etc-proposals (which by the way is a GUI tool). So, you don't need to get in anger because you have alternatives. You can choose one of them. _________________ Gentoo Handbook | My website |

OK you're banned, obviously it's not because you're asking for help or saying something doesn't make sense but because of that torrent of abuse and your poor attitude. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Wow, felt like I was in the middle of a gunfight there for a bit... must've been dreaming...

OR
Try upgrading clementine to 9999. And yes, 9999 would be the "live" version (may be svn or git, or whatever source versioning tool they are using). _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II |

Yes, I am using live with a modified ebuild. Try downgrading libprojectm and if it doesn't work I will post my ebuild once I get home. (there is also one in multimedia overlay if you want to try) |

I should have mentioned before but I had originally tested on 1.2.0 but decided to try it again. The visualizations still freeze, but installing it a second time I notice a difference in the way it freezes between the two versions: 1.2.0 actually freezes the entire system except the audio (as in, the song I'm listening to might stutter a little, but it'll keep on playing) but the rest of the system freezes hard (I need to ctrl+alt+backspace to restart X or restart the system as everything but the mouse is unresponsive. With the newer, 2.0.1, version the program freezes and the audio stops completely. However, the system itself is still responsive such that I can click the 'x' on the visualization window and the visualization will close, removing the freeze. (Again, this all only happens after I return to 'non fullscreen' with the visualization from a full screen)
The impression I get, though, is that my system isn't physically all that different from all, of yours where the program/visualizations are working; could this simply be a configuration issue with something? I mean, my graphics driver is running fine, audio is setup and running okay, and no problems with X so far as I can tell. At the same time, not sure what the configuration problem might be or where...
What kernel version are you all using? (just to cover all bases) I'm at linux-2.6.34-gentoo-r12
Also, ssteinberg. Could I trouble you to share the live ebuild as it isn't in the tree? _________________ He who laughs last, laughs hardest

There are no errors in dmesg or ~/.xsession-errors when freezing?
